Are your Maltese show-quality dogs? If not, the only advice I can give is to please spay and neuter them.

As for birthing, there are a few show breeders on this forum who can give you detailed pointers to help you deliver the pups safely.

You might want to get a breeder lined up to help you at the time of whelping.
There are some books out there on whelping toy dogs also. I suggest you
read up as much as you can. Breeding is a very serious endeavor and should
be preceded by education. I hope all goes well.

They are probably not but as for me that is not an issue... I have all the pups spoken for and I am not doing this for the money. We love our kids and I have others that want. I paid a great deal for my baby girl, and there are others who cannot afford to pay what I did and I do not believe she is show quality because of her pink eyes.... I know and understand many peoples feelings on this and respect their opinion. It would be my greatest dream to breed show quality pups and to know how to show them and get into that dimension of the breed. I am just starting so maybe some day it will happen for me. Please understand my position.

I have a wonderful vet that if anything will help me though every aspect of whelping!

Thank you though....

Thank you and I have done a great deal of reading and have a vet that is incredible and will help me though any aspect of the whelping process. Someday I hope to breed show quality maltese and I am reading how to get started in that area. Thank you again!

not all maltese are showdogs ,and are loved just as much..i think a vet would be best to give pointers.

You're right, not all Maltese are show-quality, but the purpose of breeding is to better the breed, not dilute it. I don't mean this in a mean way, just that intentionally breeding dogs who do not closely represent the breed standard is not helping the Maltese breed.

Thank you so much!!! Your pups are just beautiful!!! They remind me of mine my family and I were looking at them just the other night and my husband said wow they look just like Bell and Milo!!! So sweet... our female has little pink eyes and our male has big Brown eyes and rims!! smile.gif

Your a brave woman. I mean that only by saying...I dont have the guts to breed my dogs. I would never want anything to happen to them due to my own self indulgence. Congrats to you and I pray all goes well with the birth.

I hope the birth goes well and you have three healthy pups!!! Please post pics of them when you can. Good Luck to you!!!!

She doesn't have pink eyes (like a new zealand rabbit) just missing pigment. Good luck with your litter. It's always a little stressful having puppies.

Sorry, no pointers here...just well wishes for healthy babies. My daughter's silky is due to have her first litter (and probably her last LOL) around Dec. 17th. My daughter agreed to share a litter with the breeder (my daughter's first show dog) as part of the purchase agreement. She has had all of her health checks and the ultrasound shows 4 babies (???). I am sure things will go well, my daughter has the breeder, and two vets to help her but I am still a nervous wreck!!

Best of luck,
Linda

Oh my gosh, bless you and I wish you all the best. Sorry, no pointers here, I am just a Mommy to the precious malts.
But my heart and prayers are with you.

Have you ever looked at you tube seeing Maltese being born. Some of the videos show the actual birth. There was this amazing couple's video, showing every step of the birth, but I can't find it now sad.gif. As each one game out, they put a little colored yarnish looking material, and each one got their own colour so they could tell them a part. As a Mommy, not sure I would do that, as I would worry, that they would chew at each others yarn, but I now zero about breeding.

Do a search on you tube. Not so much for showing you what to do, but it is amazing to see how they are born.

Keeping you in my thoughts!!!

Trust your gut instinct if you think something is wrong, and if you have to transport to the vet - stay with her the whole time. Most likely everything will be fine - but if you feel like you need an intervention (csection, pitocin, etc) then know in advance how to track down your vet, his backup vet, etc, etc. and be an advocate for your dog because no one else loves her like you do. Especially since she is due right around Christmas - if you do need to go in - don't worry about being the crazy dog lady - stay with her for every bit of it and ask all the questions you want.

Good luck smile.gif

Best Wishes & good luck! You might want to call the VET the day she starts actually getting into the delivery mode so he/she will be expecting your call. I have never raised Maltese, but did raise Doberman's some years ago. So I know how stressful it can be at that time, especially it being your first time.

Can't wait to see the pictures!!!

Congrats on the babies soon to come. I don't know anything about whelping but here is a link I found quite informing.

Thank you so much!! that is my plan, I can tell if she is having problems and my specialist is 24/7 on call and their center is open with staff 24/7 for emergency personnel so I am pretty confident that if I feel like things are not right we will call and head up there immediatly and it is only about 10 min from my home. Thank you so much for your understanding!!

Happy Thanksgiving!!
