as we were walking... i was texting... cupcake was prancing around like if she knew where we were going... i think she did... but who knows...

anyway... this lady was in her porch area.. and i noticed she called to me... she asked me what type of dog i had..

i said shes a maltese....,, and she goes.. "nope... THAT is not a maltese.... probably a mutt... but DEF. not a maltese..." i was like WTF... lol everyone always LOVES CupCake...

and i was like "well why do u say that..." she says... "i've seen maltese before... long hair, white.. urs is dirty and short hair.. like a mutt" and i said "well i chose for her to have short hair.... shes "dirty" because your light is yellow and makes her look beige... AND we are walking for building 11... so her feet r dirty"

ugh i was so angry.. i wanted to cry... on the way back... (i know this is mean) but i told CupCake "SPEAK!" and she barked at the lady... lol


Cup is not a mutt.... duh.... i know that.. she knows that... so what ppl think.... whatever!

Anyone that knows a thing about Maltese knows that Cupcake is beautiful. We here at SM certainly recognize it!!!!!

What a witch! I'm not sure I would have been as brave as you though. Having Cupcake bark at her that's hilarious. Does that lady even own a dog or was she judging Cup off of what she sees on the dog shows?

Regarding your question - yes! This also happened to us. It was a few years ago, a couple of blocks over from where we live. We were window shopping when a woman - the owner of one of the shops - came out and asked what type of dog Tchelsi was. We told the lady, and her response was almost exactly the same a you described. "Oh, no ... THAT's no Maltese. I don't know WHAT that is, but it's no Maltese"!! I just laughed at her. I asked that she please let me know once she figured it out, because someone else may ask and I want to seem like I know what I'm talking about.

Don't listen to the old bag! She probably doesn't even know what a maltese looks like. I know its sometimes hard to put up with people like her, but when you have a beautiful maltese by your side it makes it much easier to let it just roll off your shoulders.

ps. cupcake should have pooped on her doorstep. That would have fixed her

We have one lady, in our complex, who has told me "that's the funniest

That was my Daisy. This gal told me to put her down, the day she arrived.
No biggy, I thought we would have to put her down, as well.

This lady is now a good friend. I like her. She's "colorful", and certainly does

Ignorant comments about my pooches ( or anything much for that matter LOL ) don't bother me. Somebody could tell me I had two of the ugliest looking pooches they ever saw.. it honestly wouldn't bother me. I heed that old saying "Take it from which it comes"...LOL

Don't worry about the buttmunch....clearly some people have far too much time on their hands. I know some have called Chloe and Daphne poodles.... I just correct them and tell them they're maltese. One lady had her maltese in her arms freshly groomed and actually turned her nose up at my Daphne while she said it because Daphne was dirty from a day of playing.... My sister in law couldn't remember what breed our dogs were and told someone they were "mitsubishi's"!

Sometimes the only way people are happy is if they feed on others, thats what they do.
They are miserable so they try to make EVERYONE else like them, miserable!!

Oh how I wish I was there when that happened!!!!!!!!!!! I am a very mild mannered person. I love for everyone to get a long, and yes, I am quite sensitive and do also get my feelings hurt, HOWEVER, say something about my babies, and oh my...my sugar turns into salt REAL fast. These people are soooooooooooo not worth the time nor energy.

I never ran into this nonsense with my Flakey, Tina Marie or Kara. But, on the couple of times we had Ms. Mia out....Oh...my ....God... I was floored!

Hubby and I were at a store with Ms. Mia, and I am kneeling on the floor, very intently looking at clothes for my sweet baby girl, and over my shoulder, I hear...." Is that a maltese?"...in a very icky tone. I smiled and said yes, she is. "Thought so" and then the lady walks away. Okie dokie, maybe she had to quickly use the bathroom, who knows. Then seconds later, here comes another lady breathing over my shoulder..." are you going to get her THAT dresss? It will NEVER fit her. Okay, lady, are you signing up to be Mia's designer???? THEN she says, oooooh she has bichon eyes. ????? WHAT??? What are bichon eyes???? Okay lady, go away, you are breaaaathing on my little doggie.

Then yesterday, Hubby and I took Mia to the groomers, just for a nail clipping, as they were getting long and didn't want them to bother her. We LOVE our groomers. So, I have Mia, in my arms, and this lady was standing next to me, waiting for her dog to be picked up, which I did not see as her dog was in the back.....She says to me and my husband...Oh my....she looks just like my dog. I said..ooooooh do you have a maltese too?? Dun Dun Dun, before she could answer, out comes her dog. Oh..my...goodness. It was the larges bichon I had every saw, and I must admit, quite excentric looking. However, it was 10 times larger then Mia, and honest to heaven, this is NO exaggeration, the bichons hair, was hugely puffed up, and the hair on this babies head, had to be fluffed up....10 inches high. No exaggeration. Afterwards, my husband said, what is wrong with people, can they not see.

I care not what someone things of our little girl...but plllllllllllllllease, if you no likeeee, then you no speakeeee.

I am always being asked what kind of dog Bogie is. I have had people tell me he can't be a Maltese because he is too big (he's 8 pounds) and has some color, or sometimes I'll get well, "I have teacup Maltese" like that's something to be proud of. Try telling someone that paid big bucks for a teacup there is no such thing, and see how fast they walk away.

Most people really just don't know.

I'm always amazed when people know that Jax is a Malt. I get Shih Tzu the most and Lhasa, and sometimes just a big question mark! It's okay that not everyone is aware of what a great and wonderful breed Malts are, or we'd have even more competition!

There are sooo many people out there who think it's perfectly fine to say things like that. I don't get it. It happens to me and Alvar all the time and they range from weird comments like "that's not a maltese, it's an albino yorkie" to the one that REALLY got me fuming "you should put a muzzle on that mutt" and Alvar was just walking along happily and sniffing the occasional corner, trash can and fire hydrant when a completely random person walked up to us, said that and walked away

It's much easier said than done to ignore the 's out there and it's even harder when they're directing their comments at your sweet, loving furbaby. But do try to ignore the crazies and focus on the clearly superior beings who adore Cupcake for the beautiful maltese that she is.

we learned "speak" as our trick for her puppy class.. what we did was robby went outside... and would knock on the door.. she would bark... i clicked the clicker.. and gave her a reward. we did this until she got the hang of it... then i added the "Speak" command in... and she understood...


now sometimes when shes in a good mood.. and there is a knock at the door.. she will look at me and i say" nah ah" she wont bark.. but when she is pissed at the world.. she doesnt care...

luckily this time when i told her to do something she actually did it.. lol she likes barking at ppl...


the lady i believe is a "cat" lady... she has 4 cats.. ive seen them... theyre not cute.. and r always running around... i have nothing against cats.. but im scared of them.. more than like pitbull dogs hahah!

Boy she must be tiny if a little girl thought she was a guinea pig. I love my Toby also very much. I'll try and see if I can get Toby to speak on command. In my area I don't think very many people have seen Maltese as Guymon, OK is a small town. I'm growing his coat out and with all the leaves falling he is a leaf magnet, so I went outside and raked and raked up 6 trash cans of leaves. Malts are cute long haired or short haired. I'm still working at growing out his tear stained face. When I leave to go up town he still cry's especially if it's a long time at least his face is wet. He's not as bad as he used to be leaving music going seems to help.

My husband and I were out shopping with Frank and Lola. We decided to go into a local department store. I was holding Frank and my husband was holding Lola. Some lady pokes her head out of the aisle and says in a loud voice, "you can't have those filthy dogs in here!" My husband instantly shot back, "Lady, these dogs are cleaner than you are!" I couldn't believe it. I cracked up over this, as this is the man who still calls these dogs "girley dogs". He was more upset than I was! LOL!

I've never received any negative comments about Chloe's looks however i have heard... oh she's so cute but I want tiny one... OR the ever redundant...is that a yorkie?? OR when i actually have my yorkie I always get asked if I made her hair that color? (blond on head and dark on body) Like I would pay for highlights on my dog's hair!
