I watched this program last night and it really saddened me to know that with all the resources that all the developing countries have, that there are still parts of the world that don't even have clean and safe drinking water, amonst other things. I just don't understand how this can happen in this day and age. So I'm challenging all my SM friends to chose just one thing to donate to. Whether it be from the website or to your favorite charity. Thank you Laura! for highlighting this need.:aktion033:
My younger daughter works for a Christian Non-profit---Lifewater International---that provides safe drinking water and hygiene to developing countries. In Feb. she will be going to Rwanda for a couple of weeks w/them. Google them! They are very much in need of support for providing these essentials to needed people---most especially children!
Let's continue in the Christmas spirit!

There is a company (or at these there was about 3 years ago) that developed a process of taking sand (or something -- I forget) from the earth and turning it into drinking water. They had machines and could set them up in mini-trailers. They showed me how it worked (but I'm not at all scientific). Anyway, it seemed like a fabulous idea. I think they may have run out of money to continue the project -- but it wasn't expensive for the equipment or to make the water. Was very interesting and I thought of all the 3rd world countries that could benefit from this project. I'll have to check into the company and see if they're still in business. I know that they were working in conjunction with one of the universities -- the University of Arizona (in Tucson), I believe. So many ideas and inventions that could really help the world never seem to get going for lack of funding -- but then we can fund stupid project like how beavers make a dam or some such thing. :(

There are 6 different organizations to donate to on the www.animalrescue.com website. Also, if you purchase something from any of the sites it also benefits that particular group.

Then there's always the American Maltese Association Rescue, Escondido/Fort Bragg, CA
