About Chat

I think this is a great idea. If any of the PAID members have an issue about this, please PM me or post it in here. Otherwise, I'll release the hounds (ha!) starting on June 14.

Jane, from the posts I see on Facebook, I think our members are using SKYPE to chat now.

I haven't done any maltese chat on it but Skype's pretty easy. Just dowload it and put a little money in your account. I put $10.Then you can call people from from you computer. You can use a headset for privacy or my laptop has a mic and speakers so I just have volume up. You can check for other people who have Skype who you know on it and you can see when they're on it. If you call skype to skype account your calls are free so I haven't made any dent in my account money.:chili: Some people do it as video calling, esp overseas. I haven't done that yet. Don't really want people to see me in my pjs. :HistericalSmiley:

I checked it out and you need a video camera. Seeing people and listening to them speak would be fun, wouldn't it?

The technology today is amazing. It's changed the way we communicate dramatically in just the past few years.

I think they SKYPE on Saturday nights.

I joined the SKYPE talk the other night and I didn't use voice or camera - I just typed like I would in chat. It worked pretty ok - I'm still learning about it. I also didn't load in any money.

I don't think you need camera at all. My brother and I skype all the time verbally and text and I don't think his computer has a built in camera.

I just joined too and I just downloaded the software and typed. I don't think anybody used voice or video.

Duh, shows what I know!!!!! I went to the website and thought it said you had to have a camera. :brownbag:

I have skype and now I just realised I got a request from an SM member a few weeks ago and I had no idea who it was! oops! sorry!

Yung, isn't there supposed to be a link in the blue taskbar above the forum? Perhaps I am blind, but I am not seeing it.

I use Skype all the time for my family/friends and for work. I love it!!

I don't think the chat here works on a Mac though...I tried to do it once..a long time ago and it wasn't showing up properly on my screen (that was before the switch over). Maybe I'm just technically challenged though?

Andrea - Just tested Chat on my Mac and it works.

Your not blind Carina, it's not showing up in the task bar. Yung, I think it needs to be tweaked.:huh:

PS- You don't need a camera with skype..some people I use it with don't have one..but we just have a voice conversation. Honestly it's so great...I can keep in touch with my Dad and friends who don't live in China. A phone call is crazy expensive here.. like $9 per minute...so I don't make a lot of phone calls to anyone! lol. On Skype it's Free!! gotta love that!
