Acting wierd after a bath?

771 Views 7 Replies 5 Participants Last post by  Graciella Louisa
Gracie just had a bath today with new shampoo and now she is acting really strange. she is very restless and isnt wanting to be up high (whenever i put her on my bed or the couch, she tries to jump off). but the restlessness is worrying me. could it be that the smell from the shampoo disorients her becouse she is used to smelling herself? do you think the shampoo was too strong becouse i can still smell soap when i kiss her. i was just worried becouse she isnt quite herself!

well, she has calmed down now and gone to sleep. i think ill do the same and try not to wake her up and see how she is in the morning!
funny enough that happened with Vixen too. i used my hair shampoo nexxus humectress to bath her and she was soooooo hyper. the shampoo makes her smell amazing for days after her bath so i love it. i just dont understand why it made her so hyper.
Bailey does the hyper thing too after every bath...I thought it was just normal post-bath behavior for dogs, hehe (he is my first one). I never realized it might be the shampoo...I have only ever used one kind so far so I will switch it up to see if it makes any difference.
Here are just two articles that explain the dangers of shampoos and body care products that aren't natural. (There are many studies and articles all over the internet.) Most of these products are loaded with toxic chemicals that can cause all kinds of health problems, including neurological disease, liver disorders, cancer, and immune system problems.

Toxins and Harmful Chemicals Commonly Found in Shampoos and Other Personal Care Products

Popular shampoos contain toxic chemicals linked to nerve damage

Last year a member' malt, Vivienne (from Bonnie's Angels), became very sick from Pantene (if i remember correctly). The first few times she bathed with it she didn't seem like herself but around the 3rd time she became very sick and was taken to the vet. Even baby shampoos are horrible as there is a chemical in the shampoo that actually stops tearing! It has nothing to do with the shampoo being gentle. EarthBath pet products are one of the purest around. I'm sure there are more that SM members can recommend.

BTW, there are similar health dangers with household products too - cleaning and laundry products, room deodorizers, candles, flea collars and pesticides, foam bedding, etc.
Please try to use only natural products for your babies - and your families too:heart:

I know that I have allergies triggered by shampoos and conditioners. For me it's Quarternium which is formaldehyde and in many, many hair care products. It's like embalming fluid. :w00t: I also have other allergies to hair dies that make me feel like you're describing -- shaky, stressed out, hyper. So you can just imagine for these little ones.
thank you for all your replies, i was using dog shampoo, but i think the reason she was acting wierd was that she smelled different. i wanted to get better shampoo anyway, so i got better, all natural shampoo! thanks for your help!
i will use the new shampoo for her next bath!
