Bella's story is a must read for anyone tempted to buy a puppy from a pet shop.

And remember, it's not just pet shops who sell genetically inferior puppies. That backyard breeder who runs an ad in your local newspaper may appear to do everything right and raise those puppies in her living room, keep them until 12 weeks, etc., but if her breeding dogs came from pet shops/puppy mills, their puppies are at just as much risk for inherited diseases as pet shop puppies are.
