Sis was 12 wks when she came home.  We had been visiting since she was 4 weeks old.  I could see the progression in her as far as size, temperment and eating went.  I seriously think she could of come home at 10 weeks or so because she really was the "independant" one of the litter.  She played well alone and did not show any social problems, ie; biting, aggression etc, at the time.  The "breeder" (hobby breeder) insisted on keeping her until 12 weeks because "that is what my Vet recommended".......I understand the theory of learning "puppy manners", but frankly, we have had some of those "puppy" issues, biting etc anyway!!  I would of loved to have had her at 10 weeks and feel sometimes that I really missed that "puppy stage".  She was DARNED independant when she came to us, she rarely cuddles (maybe it's because she is STILL a puppy), but often feel she would of been more "loving" had we gotten her sooner.  She's crazy about being with us in the same room, but won't sleep in our laps or anything like that.  She gives kisses and just turns herself inside out when I come home from work, you can see she just loves us, but NO cuddles.....

I am glad your Vets wife is keeping her...it'll be better for both of you.....

How old is Sis?
I don't remember.
BUT, my point is...that Brinkley was MUCH like you are describing her pre-neutering...he changed SO much about 6-12 weeks after he was neutered! Now he lays in my lap all the time and sleeps right next to me most nights. I don't know if it was something that happened hormonally after the neuter or if it just happened as he got older...but it did happen. :D Maybe Sis will be like that too, or maybe she just has a more independent personality...

Sisse is 5 months, she's due for spay the end of May....I hope your right. Don't get me wrong, we just love her to death, but she is one independant little girl!!

Yeah, she is still a rowdy pup...too much to do to sit still for too long
...I bet she settles down and become more of a cuddly lap dog when she gets closer to 1 year!

Everybody that has brought their babies home early, enlighten me!

I brought Abby home at about 7 weeks. It was not ideal in my opinion - as in from what I had heard, I would much rather have left her there until 12 weeks - however, my breeder's mother had a health scare and she had to go to look after her and didn't know when she'd be back.... if I had left Abby with her, it would have meant that she had to relocate the mum & pup via a long air trip. I didn't want to put mum or pup through that...

Anyway, it takes a lot to bring them home at that age - I was terrified of all of the things that can happen to them at such a young age. I took her to work with me every day (actually, that was for about 6 weeks! LOL) and kept a close eye on her. I stayed in close contact with the vet and had all contact numbers for the breeder. She rang every now and then to see how everything was going... BUT ... we got through it safe & sound and we are doing really well now...

My only worry in your situation is the holiday you are going on. The vet's wife sounds fantastic, but if I was in your situation I'd be a little bit funny - that age is, as you've been told, a bonding age. I would just be so upset to think that my baby would be bonding with somebody else instead of me. But that's just me! LOL

I'm sure you'll make the right decision for you. Either way, you will have our support.

I'm not sure cuddling has to do with when they came home. I think it is just the nature of the dog. Kallie came home at just under 8 weeks and cuddled at first but she grew out of it and is not a cuddler at all. She is just the sweetest thing and loves to be petted but she is very active and can't sit still in my lap at all. Catcher, on the other hand, came home at a little under 11 weeks and he is a big cuddler. He will be a year soon and it just amazes me how that little guy likes to cuddle.

For example, today we were out on the patio and Kallie was rooting around out there having a good ole time. Catcher was in my lap snuggling close and giving me kisses and he had no interest in anything else. I truly think it is just each dog's individual personality.....
she is soo cute
can't wait til you get her
