I took Buster for a recheck on his skin today. The Vet says hes not getting better and she can't do anything more for me.
So she is referring me to a vet. dermatologist in Orlando about an hour away. Hopefully I can get in soon and find out what is wrong. I'm going to call Monday. I guess they will have to do allergie testing. I just want my baby better. I'll keep you posted.

have you tried talking to ladymontava?

gruffi kept on getting these allergies every now and then where he was losing a bunch of hair on his face. my vet basically told me that gruffi would need steroids every now and then throughout his life.

i think ladymontava asked like 4 questions...and she helped me figure what the problem was.
it turns out that gruffi was sticking his face in the fence...and that was probably irratating him. so now (i feel so ghetto) i put up plastic sheets and nailed them to the fence. so now he cant stick his face in the fence...and his hair is growing back.

i hope your baby doesnt have anything serious.
good luck with the new vet.

Cindy ... is Buster very itchy with this skin problem? I mean very itchy?
Likely it is an allergy of some kind but a couple of years ago we went thur this with Missy.. and the secondary staph also. There was suspicion of sarcoptic mite but it was considered very very unlikely in a little "lap dog" that didn't go romping thru fields etc. ( she didn't fit the profile) but A scraping was done as a just in case but there was no finding. We did everything.. including the predisnone... but in all of this Missy was found to have diabetes so we stopped the pred as it is not advised with diabetes.( we also ruled out the food allergy. ) We did baths, took care of the staph.. and over the summer she cleared up nicely.
Then bam.. in the fall..it was back again.. and worse than the first time. It so appeared to be seasonal allergy. I put onsies and baby socks on her every time she went outside , took them off when she came in and new ones for the next trip.
( I bought them at dollar stores and thrift shops so had loads of them ) We also tried another med, baths etc. got 'some" temp relief but nothing significant. Her vet was consulting with a specialist and to set up a referral so we could get Missy to see her. Meanwhile over the week-end wait.. we did the pred again.. for the few days to give her a bit relief ( she was miserable!) We had a vet visit on Mon or Tue after the week-end before going to the dermatologist. Missy was even worse than before within those few days.. A 'lightbulb' went on .. her vet said I know we've done a lot of scrapings..but I'd like to try one more.. and this time sure enough.. the micro-beastie showed up on the slide. Sarcoptic mites are very very elusive!! but the predisone had surpressed her system apparantly and they took-off" and thus we 'got one". She was treated with injections and the condition finally cleared and never returned.
I can fully understand the frustration and i know it is so hard to see them not feeling great .

Hi, To answer a few questions, Jessica and Lucy, I live in West Melbourne, so we're just minutes from each other! Buster is not that itchy, probably just alittle more then the average. My husband thinks Buster is allergic to my perfume because his rash is on his back, rt side and around his neck and when I pick Buster up my rt arm is along his rt side and my hand is between his front arms. I spray my perfume on my arms. So starting today no more perfume to see if it helps. Hopefully I can get into this Dr. soon.
