OMG! Whenever either my husband or myself begin to change clothes or even begin certain routines all of a sudden Sassy know that something is up. She always knows if we are going to leave the house. She knows if I am going out back to work in the yard. She just seems to know things
So long ago my husband and I began to spell in front of her
OMG! Most people would think I have lost my mind.....spelling in front of a little white fur ball.
Well you won't believe it...........now she has learned to spell
yep that is correct, Sassy can spell
I can say to my husband, "Honey did you get the m-a-i -l" and Sassy comes running to the front door and woofs.....little tail nobbing back and forth. And also other words, i-c-e- c-r-e-a-m, she takes off to the refrigerator....p-o-p-c-o-r-n and she runs and stands in front of the microwave. Yep, now she S-P-E-L-L-S
what am I going to do?
Has anyone else experienced similar situations? Is your baby TOO smart for his/her britches/skirt? Can your babies SPELL?

Omg, that is just amazing!!!! Rosie doesnt know how to spell yet
but we will be working on it!!
Rosie is really smart, sometimes I wish that she wasnt so smart, she likes to trick us.
She knows many words, when we ask her if she wants to get in her carrier, she runs and starts to sleep, like she knows that we wont interrupt her while shes napping. Rosie is quite a character.

Oh yes, we know all about the spelling thing. Scooby is always listening to our words and we have to be very careful of what we say as he picks up on everything. Spelling words worked for a little while but he has wised up on us there too.
I have to laugh though because the one thing in the whole world he hates is having his ears cleaned, if I even mention ears he runs the other way so I spell c-l-e-a-n e-a-r-s time and he is also off and running.
I have to agree they are so very smart, and also they know how to figure out what we are going to do. Hubby often tells Scooby we are going somewhere and he just scampers all over the house and watches me to see if I am getting ready and the minute the shoes go on that is it, he is waiting at the back room to get his halter and sweater on.

buttercup knows that "p-e-t-s-m-a-r-t" means "we're going for a car ride! yippeeee!!!" by the time she was a year old, i was spelling it fast enough that she wasnt "getting" it, but of course, that only lasted a few months LOL
she knows "f-o-o-d" "w-a-l-k" "c-a-r r-i-d-e" "w-o-r-k" (which usually finds her hiding under our bed in an effort to thwart the "alrighty, time for buttercups to go to their kitchen playhouse while mommy goes to work and makes $$$ to buy buttercups nice things!") as well as certain types of fruits and veggies.
she tends to listen especially careful to conversations with the words "let's go....." or "going to..." or even "downstairs" or "garage" because they usually mean, again, "we're going for a car ride! yipppeeeeee!"

i think she actually can distinguish words versus letters, too. because she picks up when words are spelled out, it's because we're trying to avoid getting her worked up LOL. i dunno.

Yep! those are the things I am speaking of. C-a-r r-i-d-e so as not to get her so worked up before time to go. B-a-t-h sometimes she will get into her kennel and then grumble when I reach in to get her. O-u-t-s-i-d-e, i-c-e c-r-e-a-m,
g-r-o-o-m, e-a-r-booger (pluck ears).

Scoobydoo, yes Sassy watches for certain behaviors also. She knows that when both mommy and daddy are getting dressed and grooming at the same time that we are both going out. She hangs around until the very last minute in hopes that she might be invited. I always feel so guilty when I have to tell her, "Sassy, you are a good girl and you will wait." She is droop her little tail and go and get into her little kennel. The door has been removed so I guess that is her little safe haven.

They are all sooooo smart.

Lacey knows when I am leaving the house for work...Monday thru Friday she sits/lays on the bed and chews/sucks on her "green moonie." She only does this when I am getting ready for work...just one more thing to make me feel guilty. I keep telling hubby that she "needs a stay at home mommy," but he just rolls his eyes at me. Since he gets to be with most of the day (office at home) he gets her all to herself! They do email me every morning...Lacey walks on the keyboard.

She does know hand signals...if we throw a ball or toy and she can't see it we point to were it is and she goes to it! She is so smart.

Hey Pat--just so you know I've about licked this thing (no pun intended to the D-a-i-r-y Q-u-e-e-n, he can also spell S-o-n-i-c.

Samsonsmom

I can also spell naughty words, but just this one time, I'll be good. Maybe now that my computer challenged mommie has figured out how to post, she can figure out how to add my picture!

The spelling thing is supposed to work so that the furbaby does not know what is going on
but I think they very much know what is going on and it is we humans who don't have a clue
The other day I said to my husband, "honey did you get the m-a-i-l ?" Now Sassy was a sleep on the ottomon when I asked the question. Well I want you to know that that little head popped up and she gave a little bark and leaped about half way across the room and waited for me at the door.
My husband and I both laughed, now we can't even spell mail without her knowing what we have said. That is another word to her vocabulary recognition.

Oh, I can just picture that... soooo cute!!! What it is about getting the mail (or paper) that thrills them so? I've always carried Kallie out to get the paper with me and she literally jumps in my arms when I ask her if she's ready to get the paper. It is just a few steps to get it but it makes her day!

Isn't it funny how LITTLE things mean so much to these little angels? A couple of times my husband has been doodling outside and has asked me to move my car out of the garage for him. When Sassy heard the car keys, she of course wanted to go "car ride." So I let her help me back the car out of the garage. She was so happy. I mean we rode 30--40 feet and she was thrilled
Doesn't take much to entertain her
