Hi,

My friend (recently retired) is looking in to getting a Chinese Crested! I don't
know anything more than I can find on the internet..does anyone here have
any experience with this breed. I'm in Florida.

Any info would be appreciated. thanks:thumbsup:

Mary Anna, have your friend go to some dog shows. Cresteds have their own unique problems so you need a good breeder. I love them!

I will

I've been searching for shows in my area. I haven't found any specialty
shows but it's a good idea to go to a general show. thanks

I've never had a Chinese Crested, but they're my 2nd favorite breed (after Maltese, obviously) and I'd really love to have one someday! Is your friend interested in a powderpuff or hairless? The hairless ones need some extra skin care (sunscreen, moisturizer, etc) and are prone to dental problems.

They're so cute but they tend to loose their teeth so their tongues hang out. They always wiin the ugliest dog contests and people love them!

I was originally going to get a Crestie, before falling in love with Maltese. The are plenty of very recommended books available, ebay included.

As much as the 'Hairless' look adorable, they're not entirely what they're lead to make people believe. They're not hairless at all. They need constant shaving on the torso and legs, this is normally required twice a week. As someone noted previously, they're teeth do fall out at a younger age and they're extremely prone to sunburn.

They are a lovely breed, granted. I visited a very respected breeder over here (UK) where she had a whole house dedicated to the breed. A complete show home.

I'd get a powderpuff personally :)

thanks!

I appreciate all the comments...I found a toy breed show in December and
we are going to look at all the breeds.

By the descriptions posted I'm thinking it's a good idea to look at other breeds.
This is my friends first dog and I think he could do better (maltese:wub:?)!

Thanks for the responses.
