Chloe and Summer both have ear infections!

I feel so bad for my babies...Summer has an infection in both ears and Chloe in one ear. Chloe used to get one ear infection after another in one ear and since she had 2 surgeries on that ear, she hasn't had any ear infections at all in 2 years until now. The infection is in the ear that did not have the surgeries. She was scratching so bad, she was pulling chunks of hair out of ear. She doesn't know which ear to scratch first...she never stops scatching the ear that had the surgeries. My vet said her ear looks fine (though it really is not pretty inside since the surgeries) and she thinks at this point it is behavioral...sometimes I want to put a cone on her head to get her to stop scratching.:smpullhair:

The vet tech wanted to steal Summer...she said when she takes her in the back to draw blood (she was being tested for heartworm) she was going to sneak her out the back door into her car and take her home :w00t:...not my baby!

Summer is so calm, you could do anything to her and she just lets you. Chloe on the other hand, gets very nervous going to see the vet.

poor babies , i hope they feel better soon , what a coincidence both at the same time..
Awwwww poor babies!! Any idea what is causing this?
Scooby always got an ear infection after going to the groomer so I stopped taking them and do it myself. Poor fella would have one in his right ear a week after grooming, it would clear with meds then return again next month after his bath.
Since I stopped taking him he has hardly had a problem, but when I bath them I always use Oti-Soother and flush out their ears to make sure the drying agent reached down in the ear to clear any water out that may have got in.
I have meds here all the time for ear infections and as soon as I see him scratching his ear I check it and if it's bad enough I will treat it immediately, but I don't like to medicate too often as this can effect their hearing so I have been told, so I clean their ears weekly with the Oti-Soother and this helps keep their ears healthy and smelling nice too.
Oti-Soother is a vet only product so you could ask about it next time you are there if you want to try it.
Have they discusses trying a behavioral drug for the itching?
Muffy use to have them all the time, I hope the girls get better soon
awwwh hope the infection vanishes very soon ...kisses to the lil ones are sent from me

hugs
Kat

I use a drying agent that I got from my vet that I use every time I bathe them...This is Chloe's first ear infection in 2 years and the first for Summer since I had her.

No one has ever discussed using a behavioral drug for the itching. She always seems so uncomfortable and I feel so bad for her.
If your vet can't adequately address it then I would get a referral to a veterinary dermatologist.
how terrible! we have been down that road with ear infections! I hope they both feel better soon and stop all that scratching!
Donna - no advice. Just hoping they get better soon. It's so sad to see them suffer like that.:grouphug:
Poor girls. Hannah use to have ear infections. She was treated multiple times. She finally got over it. I use the drying agent in her ears after every bath & only pluck the ear hair every 8 to 10 weeks. She sometimes still scratches at one of her ears a little, but the vet says it's just allergy related, her ears look fine now. Hope Chloe & Summer get better soon.
Oh no poor babies! I get ear infection quite frequently and they are so painful... I hope they get better soon. :(
Hope Chloe & Summer's ears get better soon!
And of course the staff at the vet's want to steal Summer!
Who wouldn't? ;)
And Chloe, too!
Poor little babies! Hope they are doing better!
