Good evening
Thank you for accepting me In to this group
I am a Mom to two Maltese
Teddy-Rose 9yo
Ari 11 yo
Ari has had a rough 6 months .
He got diagnosed with liver Cancer in August of last year
During his surgery , Copper storage disease was discovered what most likely caused the Tumour to grow.
His surgery was successful and he recovered well .
Fast forward 6 months later his back is turning beige .
When he was little he had peach undertone on his ears and a bit on his back .
Is it possible for them to get darker with Age ?
Is it possible that his coat could change colour due to his liver issues?

Welcome to SM! So happy to have you!
This is a topic which has, in my memory at least, never been discussed here before---at least not in my time.
Since this is a hereditary disease it may be best asked of the breeder. Did your pup have siblings? I would be very interested to know.
How is he now?

My Cody has liver disease and has had surgery removing a liver tumor. His coat never changed color on him. Definitely could be genetics , totally agree with Sandi ask the breeder and possibly ask your veterinarian. Your pup is Adorable!!!

You would most likely see changes in the whites of their eyes with advanced liver disease, but I have never heard it affect the coat at all. I agree it is likely hereditary, though there is an off chance that there is some type of nutritional deficit that could effect pigmentation in the hair turning it a darker color.

Quick ?--- did this happen all at once just after the surgery? I have heard of copper storage disease but not up-close---just reading.

Cutie! Has he always been in a short coat, or was it long until he got sick?
My Ling Ling has alot of lemon on her ears, center of her back, a bit thru her tail, only noticeable when shaved, or wet in the bath, she still a bit damp in the pix I attached
In fact, when she was/is in a full coat, it’s really such a bright, beautiful snow white, and much more whiter in tone than my other two. It has gotten a bit darker over the years.
