My Chanel has her front dew claws intact, but the rear ones have been removed. The breeder said it was "cruel" to take them off, because they are digits on their body, so she didn't remove them.

Do your furbabies have them anywhere, front or back?

Thanks.

if you dont want chanel to have her dew claws---you can get them removed. get it done when she gets spayed and ask for pain killers.

thats what we did with gruffi. he was born with the front dew claws and not the back dew claws. people thought i was cruel for removing the dew claws when gruffi was 5 months old---but i dont regret it.
i'll see him do something now and think "his dew claw could've ripped if he had it".

Both of ours still have theirs (born without back ones) and the babies had them also, vet said on the small breeds like Malts, she did not think it was neccessay to remove unless you were planning on showing them? Just another opinion, we've had no problems with them.

they remove it like amputating a finger---something like that. i didnt touch gruffis feet or anything, and he walked totally fine. it didnt seem to hurt him. i think the nuetering hurt him more.

Dogs only have front dew claws. They are usually removed when they are a few days old, if they are going to be removed.

In some breeds such as schnauzers etc. they also crop the tail at the same time.

If your puppy has front dew claws, I wouldn't recommend having them removed. It's just more complicated if they're older.
