Obi eats about 1/2 cup of food a day, at least thats what i put out for him, but he doesn't eat most of it usually. For the last 2 days he has been eating barely anything so i put baby food in his food and he ate it all up. By doing this, will it make him picky so he wont want to eat his food without it? Also, he poops about 3 or 4 times a day which doesn't make sense because i dont even think he eats enough food to make that much. Im afraid he is getting to skinny. Right now he seems to be at a healthy weight and looks like a good weight but im still worried. Also, is him pooping that much normal?? Thanks everyone!

Most often when a dog is pooping that much, it is because the food isn't agreeing with them. Switching foods isn't a bad idea.

If he is not losing weight and you can feel his ribs without them being prominent, his weight is fine. Many dogs will fast themselves for a day occasionally and it is not a big deal.

For picky eaters, I would feed a meal. Food down for 15 minutes and then up. That's the opportunity to eat and that is it. No snacks until he gets his eating habits down so he will be hungry at meal time. I've usually added a little cheese or veggies for my dogs at meal time out of habit.

Pico was pooping two poops once a day for a while but is down to one poop once a day. It does depend upon the quality of food. He has always been on Science Diet until I started home cooking for him. I can't imagine 4 poops a day, though!

Tucker eats about half a cup of food per day. I give him one cup, but he never eats it all. Of course the spoiled rotten baby does get his fair share of treats(okay, okay, more than his fair share,LOL). And he poops at least 3-4 times per day. He eats science diet. How much does your dog weigh? You could always talk to your vet about it next time you're there just to get their opinion.

Same here, once a day, unless he has a treat that isnt the same brand as his dog food (Nutro). I dont know, maybe he is just used to Nutro so anything else has to come out. I can't imagine 4 a day either!

Cindy, what food is he on? I've always heard that they poop the number of times they are fed. Premium food is absorbed better so they poop less and it is firm and has no smell. At least that is the case with K & C.

Tic used to poo like 6 times a day :new_Eyecrazy: I mentioned it here before and JMM said that changing his food may help. He still poo's more times than he eats, but it's better than 6. Tic was eating Artemis small breed before and now he's eating Innova puppy.

Toby poops one, sometimes two times a day. He eats quality brand foods (O&M, IVD Dental, Natural Balance and Newman's Organic) so that could be why he poops less.

How old is Obi? What brand of food do you feed him? If I were you, I would slowly switch his food (sounds like maybe it isn't agreeing with him) to a higher quality.

I would continue to keep an eye on him and if you think something is seriously wrong, I would bring him to the vet ASAP. JMO

Good luck and keep us posted!

I'm by no means a dog food expert and Eukanuba certainly isn't a bad brand, but I prefer natural and holistic dog foods. That is just my opinion. I believe that by feeding the best quality food now, I may prevent future health issues. I don't ever want to look back and regarding the choices I made.

I mix the four brands together along with Greenie Lil' Bits and store it in an air tight container. I feed the four brands because say one brand should lack in a certain vitamin or necessary ingredient, then hopefully one of the other three will have it.

It is a bit of an initial expense to buy the foods, but most of them come in a variety of sizes so you will run out at different times, thus reducing your costs.

Also, by feeding premium foods, studies have proven that it is cheaper in the long run because you have to feed less food.

Many of the foods claim that you will see a difference in the dog's coat, appearance, etc. I can't say that I see a difference in Toby's coat because he has pretty much been on the food since I had him, however, Wally is another story. I switched him to this diet around the time we got Toby and his shedding has greatly been reduced and there is a much nicer shine to his coat. So I can say that it has helped Wally.

Obi didn't eat any of his food since i gave it to him yesterday morning so i added in some more baby food and he ate all of it again. I just dont have the money to do that because i only give him 1/2 tbs of baby food in his food and it goes bad in 2 days and that is a huge waste. Baby food is exspensive...Any alternatives??

I dont know if freezing baby food is ok, maybe you could call the company and ask. I did this with Phoebe's canned food at one point. I'd waste more than half of a can by the time she'd eat, so I'd open one, and I'd freeze the rest in those new ziploc or whatever cups, and thaw them as I needed.

Eventually I got her off of that though, and shes fine on just her kibbles. She has never had a problem eating. She used to be on Artemis, and now shes on Innova Evo, which is no grain.

K\Cs mom, I am jealous if theres no smell because that is not the case with princess here on any of these foods... she is a tomboy through and through! As she looks at me, *burp* huh?

Jack eats Nutro Max puppy food, which I thought was good natural food, and he eats once a day -- but he gets treats a lot... I think it's the treats that make him poo more often. He CAN hold it and only go 1 or 2 times a day, but if I take him outside, you know -- he just thinks "hey, i might as well void the poo-sack" and makes a turd or two.

Yep, it's true... no smelly poops!! Both of mine go on pads in the laundry room and there just isn't any discernable smell. They both eat only Newman's, even for treats. If I'm eating an apple or lettuce, I'll give them some because they go nuts for it. They each have two small BM's a day and that's it.
