<span style="font-family:Times">My vet told me to start using a flea medication on Peaches to prevent infestation. He told me to use advantage. I was wondering if any of you use medication for fleas, and if so what? there are so many brand like frontline , advantage, advantix...which is best?

they r all great products and basically trial and error which u like
advantage washes off but it is safe enough to use every week ( certain shampoos dont wash it off)...frontline can only be used monthly but doesnt wash off. frontline spray is the cheapest but ive heard great and bad results (it is dependent on the applicator whether the person applies it correctly) i think some areas the fronline works best and others advantage works best...so go with what ur vet recommends cause thats prob the best for your area.

I use the Frontline Plus and Scooby has never had fleas either. I believe the fleas still can get on them with it but once they do they die and the reproductive cycle is stopped, by killing any eggs that my have been laid by the adult flea. I like it too because it is also good for preventing ticks.

I don't know which is best, but my boys use Frontline Plus.  My sister used Frontline Plus on her dog, and he constantly had fleas and switched to Advantage and he hasn't had fleas since.  My boys have never had fleas on Frontline.

I use Advantage, my vet told me that if I waited 3 days to wash Massimo that it would still protect him for the duration. I haven't had any problems with it.
I haven't seen a flea yet!

I bathe Lady weekly so Advantage doesn't work on her. One week after I apply it, she has fleas again.

I have used Frontline spray for years. I saturate a cosmetic puff (not a cotton ball) with it and apply it that way. I can use it on Lady and my cats. It is really economical. A small bottle is $22 and lasts for years. I had to throw my last bottle away because it had expired before I used it all up!

I've used Advantage on Pico since I got him at 6 months. I bathe him about twice a month and have had no problems. Since I started using Beneficial Nematodes on my lawn twice a year I will sometimes skip a few months of using the Advantage with no fleas showing up.

Since stray animals can drop adult fleas as they pass through my yard, he will still get a flea from time to time but the nematodes destroy the larvae so we don't get an infestation.

But I think I'm going to switch to the Frontline spray when the Advantage is gone because we just don't have much of a problem and the Frontline spray would be much cheaper to use. I know the woman who owns his mom and siblings has used the Frontline spray since they were pups and has good results with it, too.

Did anyone have problems due to the size of the dog?
My daisy is only 2.8 pounds and we are afraid that the advantage d7 or whatever the name is might hurt her.
I want to have her satrted on something though. She is only 4months old. What do you guys think?

Thanks!

We have had Abbey on Revolution since she was 14 wks old and 2.1 lbs. We've not had any problems with fleas or tics (knock on wood). Abbey is outside several times a day to potty and play. I had all intentions on using Frontline Plus (I even bought a box of it) but my vet said she was too little. She felt more comfortable with revolution. Frontline plus says it is approved for small dogs, even puppies but my vet said she didn't trust it. Abbey is 4 lbs. and 8 1/2 months old. Plus revolution has heartworm medicine in it, so no separate treatment for it.

We use the K-9 Advantix and that has worked fine. I have to wash Rex 2-3 times a week, so by the end of the month, I think it starts wearing off, because that is when he got his bite. We use it mostly for mosquitoes, because that is a huge problem here and they are very attracted to Rex! I am supposed to use the whole thing, but it is so greasy that I have only used 1/2 tube last month and it seems to work the same as the whole tube. I figure he is 5 pounds and the tube is for up to a 10 pound dog, so half sounds fine!
