Flea meds

What is everyone using and is it working?

I was using revolution on Delilah, but I don't think it was working. I was finding fleas on her! So I have switched to advantage multi. No fleas now! The only thing I'm worried is about bathing her on a weekly basis. I don't want to wash her protection off. Not sure what to do about that.

I use regular Advantage and bathe Lady weekly. I have had no problem. Make sure you use a shampoo formulated for dogs.
PurePaws does not claim to be a flea preventive shampoo, but the essential oils in it has been noted to prevent fleas. So I decided to go ahead and try not doing any flea meds and see what happens. It's been over 2 months since I've used any flea meds on Zoe and Jett and Callie would have been due for a flea med a couple of weeks ago. So far so good. I would not recommend this for those who don't bathe on a weekly basis. I also use the PurePaws Ultra Shine Spray every morning when I brush and comb them so that may help a bit too. Last Christmas, before I started to use PurePaws, I found a flea on Jett. I have always bathed weekly so I know that weekly bathing in itself does not prevent fleas in my area. Keeping my fingers crossed that we can make it through this whole flea season without any fleas and no toxic flea meds!

I use K9 Advantix and after our little adventure in the woods, found a number of dead fleas and two live ones on the girls. I will continue using it because of the dead fleas but next year when we go I will add some sort of additional safe repellent - maybe Pure Paws?

I have been using the Pure Paws weekly on all my dogs as well. I had a house guest that came with fleas 2 months ago when I was only bathing Izzy weekly. She was the only dog that did not get fleas. The other two went berzerk. So I'm keeping my fingers crossed and it's been two months since the last flea treatment for us as well.
I love K9 Advantix for ALL my dogs (5lbs, 27lbs, and 65+lbs). I live in south FL where every type of bug you can imagine flourishes... but my house has been flea/tick/pest free for years. I also really like this product for smaller dogs because the small dose is from 1-10lbs, not 1-25lbs like some other brands. :)
Hi Laura. I use Advantage Multi on Dixie when we are in FL. Somewhere in the papers that came with it at one time or in researching it on the website it was stated that it is ok to bathe the dog 90 minutes after application in regard to heart worm protection. For flea protection to stay affective bathe 4 days after application. I wrote it down for myself but darned it I can find it in their literature.
In MA I switch to k9 Advantix with the addition of Heartguard. The Advantage Multi doesn't protect against ticks & they are rampant in our section of MA. This was at the suggestion of the vet and that's what I've always done.
Give sweet Delilah a big kiss for me.
The heartworm prevention in Advantage Multi is absorbed within 24-48 hours and cannot be washed off after that.
I did have a problem with washing the product (Frontline, Advantage). I switched to Comfortis and that solved the problem.
For Heartworm i use Sentinel and last year we had a huge flea problem so i added Comfortis. This year knock on wood no fleas.
I use frontline plus, but I'm pretty sure I'll be switching to advantage because I've found about 10 fleas on her this week...that's never happened to me before on FL. But everyone here seems to prefer advantage. I'm also making my own shampoo with essential oils in it. We'll see how that works out.
(and btw, I JUST put the new fl on them on monday, so it's not even been 7 days! I have to wait 3 more weeks to put anything else on them!)

When we had our flea problem last year i was using FL and it did nothing, so i went to the vets and got Comfortis and it worked great. Good luck with whatever you use. If your still seeing fleas you can get some Capstar and that will kill the fleas and is safe to use with the FL it's in a pill form.

Fleas can build up a resistance to some of the flea treatments used in your area. That happened to me with Frontline a few years ago. I switched to Advantage and haven't seen a flea since.

I know many people who swear by Comfortis, but I am not comfortable with it yet. It's just too new. Lilly's own studies showed that elevated ALT's occurred in all dogs treated with spinosad (Comfortis). I personally would be concerned about its long term effect on the liver.

I am using pure paws on Delilah and still the PM The conditioner. So I hope she still is protected. I did find 3 a bit ago and got them off, they were half dead. I don't want no fleas on my baby!
The funny thing is that I have 5 dogs, and VI is the only one that seems to have any fleas on her. I'm wondering if it was just HER batch.

I haven't treated my yard yet. I'm working on getting some DE for my yard (natural minerals that physically destroy fleas and ticks AND their eggs and larva!!!) I'm waiting to hear back from my feed store friend as to how much 50 lbs would cost. They say you can dust the animals with it as well, but they shouldn't inhale it. IDK how I would do that with wiggle worm Vi, so I'm going to stick with the chemicals for now until my yard and house is flea free, then go with a repellant.
