Food & Water Bowl

3576 Views 55 Replies 26 Participants Last post by  Laceys mom
I wash Wally and Toby's food and water bowl every other day and give them fresh water. Yesterday as I was washing them out, I sniffed the inside of a cleaned bowl; the stench that came from the bowl was enough to make me gag!

I have been using these cute little ceramic bowls that I got from Target. I know that ceramic isn't the best choice, but I thought by washing them so frequently I was reducing the chance of odor and bacteria--I guess not. I ended up soaking the bowls in a bleach and water solution and this weekend I am going to buy some stainless ones. Does anyone know where I can get some cute stainless steel bowls? I love the bowls that I have now because they are beige with blue paw prints and match my kitchen. I hate the look of the stainless steel--it looks so surgical.

I also use a ceramic bowl for water that I got at Target. I havent notice a bad smell. I do wash the bowl everyday and change water 2x per day.
They do this everytime we go for our walk. We have to rush them thru the house, past the indoor water bowls (which would be all over the floor) and outside where they take turns getting in the tub.

I definately think that the one sitting in the tub should be on the calendar for June or July
I have never seen a dog do that and look just soooo happy and content. Angel won't even walk on wet grass and I guess I have never tried that with Tag

Gosh, I'll say it again.. I love that shot!!!!

I think they each need their own "bowl" to sit in.

I just can't get over how cute that picture is!!

I found a really cute stainless bowl @ Petco
(Of course, hubby would kill me if I spent that much on a dog bowl....I have the ones that can't tip over with the rubber ring around the bottom)

Carrie--that is a beautiful bowl! Too bad it isn't less expensive--I actually need four bowls and can't justify spending that kind of money on bowls.
I may have to go with the old stand by of boring stainless steel.

I must have obessesive compulsive disorder or something! I wash Rex's water dish several times a day with antibactirial dish soap. Rex is a little spoiled and gets cold water from the refrigerator. Everytime I get a drink, I wash Rex's dish and change Rex's water so it is cold again. I have been curious about that Pet fountain Paris's mom posted, but that water would be in there all day wouldnt it? Oh we do use ceramic bowls too, the "Prince" ones from Petedge. His dog food dish on the other hand only gets washed once a day.

I just got 2 of these bowls from KV Vet and love them.  In fact I'm going to get more the next time I order from them.  Since I'm doing home cooked meals I need to wash the bowls after every meal.  I love these ones because they are heavy duty and have the rubber around the buttom but you don't have to remove it when you wash the bowl.

They are $4.79 for the 20oz. on KV Vet.  I've seen them at PetSmart and they were more.

We have the same bowls, I bought 8 because we feed her twice a day and her kibble is mixed with Gerber chicken baby food, so we have to use a new dish each time. I change her water twice a day too along with the dish. I'm weird that way, I normally get a new drinking glass everytime I get more water which I hate to say is quite often. Ruby drinks Nursery water because her breeder had her on bottled water due to the fact that she is on a well. So, we never switched her and someone suggested we give her nursery water because of the added fluoride.

Lady's Mom, great bowls, I'm going to have to get some!

No they don't! Hate baths. Maybe I need to trick them into bathing them in the water bowl?

Hope this pic works, my problem with bowls was only that anything too lightweight would be dumped out by Wally and the bowl chewed. I fixed the problem by putting a tub of water outdoors (I use ceramic indoors) soooooo....here is my new problem!

Oh my goodness... that is one of those once in a blue moon shots that is just too precious for words. The look on his face and his eyes closed like he is in total heaven. I LOVE that photo!!

OMG!! So cute!! I can just hear the little "Ahhhhh"

My boys have this from petedge

They have the small size. I change the water all day long. Tic likes to drop stuff into the water, so there are always little fuzz balls that he picks off the dog bed in the bottom of the water bowl
Every morning they get clean bowls. I ordered a bunch from petedge b/c they were so inexpensive and I'm obsessive about the dirty bowls.
