I heard that it wasn't good for the kidneys to give a dog food high in protein. Can anyone tell me if this is right? Eukanuba, which is the food the breeder told me to give him, has about 36% protein. I always gave my other dog Purina One because it was lower in protein.

I feed Tini Eukanuba, the vet said it was a good food for her- but she had allergies at the beginnning.

If you read labels, you probably won't be impressed with either Eukanuba or Purina (especially Purina).
I'd start Bailey on a really good kibble made from human grade ingredients, like Wellness, Canidae, Newmans Own, etc. Nutro also makes excellent food. Make sure whatever you choose is recommended for puppies, too, as their nutritional needs are different.

They usually recommend switching them over gradually to avoid a tummy upset. Hopefully she will send Bailey home with a bag of Eukanuba and you can gradually mix in a better quality food.

The big day is........still not 100% sure, but I'm going to ask her if August 6 would work. It would only be 11 weeks, but I think that's okay as long as he is fully weaned. That would be perfect for me since I can take some days off then and work with him.
Just posted, but I forgot to say that she only gives a 2 week health guarantee, and I'm the one who has to have the liver test done on him in the second week after I bring him home. Then, if there is anything wrong with the tests, she will take him back. The way I figure it, she wanted more for the dog than what I paid, so another $100 or so would bring it up to what she says the dog is worth.

I recently switched from Artemis to Innova Evo because I tried it and Phoebe seemed to like it better. It has no grains, and I noticed 42% protien. Do any of the Pro's think that is high for protein or acceptable?

I've heard somewhere (not sure where or if it is true) that high protein diets can hurt their liver. But when I did a search for "high protein diet maltese" Bhe-Jei Maltese's website came up.

about protein, adults should have like 50% protein and puppies would have 60% protein.

I don't have a high opinion of Science Diet. Hills heavily funds vet schools and "programs" vet's to push their foods. If you look at their ingredients, they use cheap fillers like corn, peanut hulls and preservatives like BHT and BDA.

I order my food from DrsFosterandSmith.com or Life's Abundance from Healthypetnet.com. DrsFosterandSmith.com has really cheap products. I'm starting to wonder if it's quality too. Dr. Cathy!! ?? If you have some time could you give me your opinion on the site? And anyone who would take a look at it?

I noticed that Nutro has chicken meal and some other meal. Is the meal as good as actual chicken or turkey ingredients? I bought an expensive bag of Innova for puppies, but it's really too expensive. I liked the ingredients in Nutro for puppies except for the meal.

"Meal" is fine, what you don't want is "Byproduct"
I feed my dogs Nurto and SD lamb/rice small bites. Right now that are on Nutro. They are extremely picky eaters. I've tried all the expensive brands, and some cheap ones. They like what they like, and I can't do anything about that. I'm just happy they eat! LOL
