Is it possible that it could be a hemangioma? (hemangioma is an abnormal proliferation of blood vessels that may occur in any vascularized tissue.) I have these on various places of my body & they can be raised (and can itch!) They are a brownish red in color usually--not always---and seem to go down pretty far in the skin layers. Just a thought but probably way off!
