He pees on my sister

Hi everyone,

Today is Peanut's birthday!! He's 1. But for the past week he's been peeing when my sister comes home. The first time it happened I figured he was just excited, but it happens everytime she comes home. It's weird because he is very aggressive towards her. He even growls at her. He doesn't act like this to anyone else, and he has never peed on anyone else either.

I thought it might be the submissive pee, but he's really mean to my sister all the time, so why would he be submissive to someone he's so mean to? The only other time he peed on someone was at the vet when the dr. picked him up to be weighed. It was our first time back since he was neutered, I guess he remembered what happened the last time he was at the vet.

I was just wondering if anyone had any ideas that might help stop this from happening.

We need a little more information.

You're right, though, growling and urinating on your sister is not submissive behavior. Just the opposite, in fact.

Is he marking your sister/hiking his leg on her? Is your sister mean to Peanut? Does she hurt or tease him?

The only thoughts I have at this point with limited information on this situation is that it could be fear aggression. He could be afraid of your sister for some reason so he is going on the defensive. My first Matlese, Rosebud, used to do that. And in fact Kallie does it somewhat. She will bark like crazy at the door if anyone dare comes near our house. Well, someone who didn't know her would think she is very mean, aggressive, etc. But she is really just scared and is saying... please stay away 'cause I'm scared of you.

If you find out it is submissive urination, one thing I've read to do is to have your sister squat down to the your dog's level when she comes home and to talk softly to the dog. I can't remember why it says to do this, but my sister's lab mix was having this problem and I researched it for her and remember this was supposed to help.

Thanks for your responses ladysmom and kallie/catcher's mom.

No, my sister is not mean to peanut nor does she tease him. It really seems like he is just excited to see her. She comes in the door and he goes running to greet her. When she picks him up, he just lets out the pee. She doesn't hurt peanut when she picks him up either. He doesn't hike his leg or anything. It always happens when she is picking him up mid air.

I am just confused because there is such a mix of behaviors when it comes to peanut interacting with my sister. He can be just as sweet as can be, but he only growls at her. My sister is 20, so I trust that she's careful with him.

If I'm leaving out important info, please let me know. I appreciate the help!!

IMHO the peeing is submissive. I would have her come in and not get excited around him but to quietly bend down and pet him and then move on. Then see if he still does it. You may want to Google "Submissive Urination" and I bet you'll find a lot of info.

What is the growling all about? When does he growl at her? Under what circumstances?

He growls at my sister randomly. There really is no pattern to the growling. It's really random, so I can't really explain it well. They could spend hours together completely fine, but out of nowhere he will growl and bark at her without her making a single move. I just thought the growling may tie in somewhere with the urination problem.
