Hi everyone. I just had to post today (finally) after seeing the book discussion thread. What an awesome idea.

I do not currently own a maltese, I am very saddened to say. Less than two weeks ago I put my precious angel, Holli to sleep after 14 wonderful years. I miss her terribly, and cry every single day (even this second) over her. I wanted to post and get familiar with it here before I bring another home, and I need lots of help. That and I wanted to leave Holli's mark here as well. Her picture is in my profile but I havent looked at how to get it in the corner by my name yet...

I have started looking for a puppy so I've read alot here. I have not had the greatest luck but then again I am impatient and also pretty particular. My boyfriend wants me to get on with it because both of us are just so "out of whack" without our little girl, but I am trying to do the right thing.

Anyway its great to see some old faces and lots of new ones. I'm looking forward to chit chatting away here.

What a darlin' that Holli!
I am so sorry for your loss! I decided to get Brinkley soon after my favorite beloved cat died after several years...it was the best decision I made. Although he could never replace her, he sure helped to heal the hurt. Good luck! Glad you finally introduced yourself...
Welcome!

Welcome! I'm so sorry to hear about Holli. You can post her picture in your avatar by going to My Controls, then Edit Advatar Setting and then browsing to the picture on your computer. The picture needs to be less then 10KB.

You can also post pictures in your signature and in your post. To do this the picture needs to be on the internet somewhere. There are a bunch of free hosting websites. Go to My Control, then Edit Signature, and then click on URL, paste the link, and click ok.

I'm so sorry you lost your Holli. My Petie died almost 11 years ago and I still cry when I think about him. It took me 7 years to get another dog. I just didn't think I could love another one the way I loved him. Then Lady came into my life and I knew it was time.

I'm glad you are thinking about getting a puppy. It helps to fill the hole in your heart left by the one you lost. They never ever can replace a beloved pet, but they do ease the pain. When I lost my Siamese Holly suddenly to heart disease a little over a year ago, I adopted another one almost immediately.

So sorry for your loss. I lost one of my companions Gus after ten years on Dec 23rd and I still keep waiting for it to get better, but it hasn't. My life hasn,t been the same and I still cry alot. I miss him so much. Please know that there are others going through the same pain and that we all cry together. You're not alone.

I am glad that you are posting here now, and I too am sorry about your Holli. I had to let my beloved Oliver go last year, and it still haunts me. But I have two new active boys, and like others said, it never erases the loss, but they do lighten the heart. Do get another one soon, and your can ask and get answers on here about breeders, puppies, just about anything. This is a great site.

I am so sorry for your loss. I had to euthanize my 12-year-old Maltese, Rosebud, in 2002 and still miss her. I have to say, though, that getting another Malt right away helped me a lot. She isn't Rosebud but she is still my girl and it helps a lot. I now have two Malts... I got Catcher last July...

I know that awful feeling of a hole in your heart and that weight of pain. It will get better and bringing a new little one in to your life can help. It doesn't mean you don't mourn or love Holli any less... it is just making room in your heart...

You'll love this site... you can mention any brand names, breeder's names, post pictures of products.... the works! A lot of members here are new Maltese mommies and daddies, so someone with your expertise having had a Maltese for so many years, is much needed and welcomed on this site.

So glad to have you here! I look forward to your posts!

WELCOME Janet! So very sorry about Holli. You will love this site, and we will do what we can to give you support as your grieve.

Please talk about Holli if you'd like - we'd love to hear about her.

Also, any advise you can give about boating and dogs - we just got Beastie a week ago Saturday and he has yet to go on our boat. Words of wisdom, please!

Thanks everyone so much! You all have such cutie babies! It’s so fun being here. Today I went in my stash of photos that I happened to have at work and put some up, giggling to myself. It’s nice to be able to smile about her again!

The brand name no hush part to this site is exactly what I was looking for. Sometimes you just HAVE to know, where did you get those shoes!?!

I am in PA, Pittsburgh area. I have found that all the breeders that I really like their “look” are in Texas, Louisiana and Florida. Now, I don’t mind a road trip now and again, but it would be great if I found someone closer who had something sooner and it was one of those I’ve grown to like. I may end up driving that far though. I am way afraid of the whole shipping little baby thing. You know, I am a bag of nerves when I call these breeders for some reason, so it’s taking some time.

A couple of boaters here I see! Well I don’t know what specifically you might have questions on but I will tell you we never had any trouble. I think it just comes to you once you are out there you see what works. We went places we could dock and go potty in the grass (and sometimes we would have accidents if we couldn’t wait)! But that’s what hoses and soap are for. We have pontoon boats so they are like floating rooms, which is a plus I think, and we go on a lake or we also have one on the river. I don’t have ocean experience. One thing I would say if you could get them used to the water it might give you peace of mind (or in my case, fear of water worked ok too). Maybe introducing them slowly each time once they are used to the boat. Holli never liked being in the water so I didn’t force her. I took her in a few times, holding her, but she just wanted back on the boat. It’s so hard with the hair anyway, if they want to stay dry – I say that’s better for mommy. We always kept a VERY close eye on her and she was like glue to me so she’d not leave my sight anyway.

Actually the one time we found out she could swim, and I feel terrible about this, we weren’t even on our lake but at a friend's and she decided to mosey off the edge of the dock. She actually launched herself! Of course my heart was caught in my throat but we grabbed her asap and she was swimming! I do not recommend learning that way.

This got long didn’t it? Sorry!

Janet.... we love hearing stories.... keep 'em coming!

I know which breeders you probably are thinking of in La., Fla. and Texas but some folks on here have found some wonderful breeders that might be closer to you. You probably have noticed that this site is divided into sub sections. So you might want to check out the Breeders section. You may find some there. I believe someone just recently found a good breeder in Ohio, Donale.. is that any closer?

PM Saltmalty (hope that's OK Saltymalty) and see who her breeder was. She was very happy with hers and I believe the breeder is in New Jersey.

If you find a breeder you think you might want to go with you can always start a post and mention the name in your title and ask if anyone has any experience with them.

It seems that there are a lot of smaller breeders out there who also show dogs but the names are not as familiar as the big ones such as the fabulous three of Divine, Rhapsody and Marcris. You may be able to find a smaller breeding program closer to you where the sire and dam are from those breeding programs, though.

Good luck and keep us posted on your progress!
