woof! woof!

Hi Corny...can we call you Corny?

My mom is Beth, she's from the Bay Area too (originally from Vallejo). Mom was just wondering if Anne is Filipina because she says that the only people she hear the term "Nanay". My mom is Filipina...go figure, she's from Vallejo...Almost everyone I saw there during Spring Break was Filipino!

Hi Beth, I'm Anne. I bought Cornelius for my grandmother whom my family and friends call Nanay. My older sister, my older bro, my parents and I take turns caring for my 72 year old grandmother and Cornelius. It's hard keeping track of which house Cornelius is in because my grandmother goes everywhere with him. Nonetheless, the potty training is going along fine and Cornelius loves socializing with people and other dogs. He currently attends puppy preschool.

Since he's so sociable, my dad suggested that Cornelius be a "Therapy Dog" but we'll have to see about that. I don't know how to go about getting a certificate or training him for that line of work.

I'm all for the idea though. Cornelius brings so much joy to my grandmother. She exercises with him and takes him everywhere. We think that the small dog gives her the will to live longer.

and to answer your question. my mom is filipino and my dad is filipino/japanese.

Hi Corey and Anne-

Deni told me she wrote to you...
Yeah, the "nanay" thing was pretty much a giveaway!

As far as therapy dog training, Therapy Dog International http://www.tdi-dog.org requires that all TD's are at least one year old before certification. I've currently got both Deni and Ally (tiny Pekapoo) going to obedience classes. Well, Deni starts Thursday in Puppy Class, and Ally is in an adult/advanced class. I also plan to have them both get certified at Canine Good Citizens (CGC) prior to training for TD service. I recommend checking out the TDI site for more info regarding TDs.I'm sorry...I'm being licked to death by Ally right now...

OK...some obedience schools also offer TD training classes, you may want to look into that too. They'll have all the obstacles (wheelchairs, canes, walkers, etc) that a TD might run into. I may have to wait a few extra months with Ally because she is sometimes overly friendly, she'll be 1 next month. Deni's only 5 months so it'll be awhile before she even becomes eligible. HTH!!
