Hi...I am getting desperate trying to find skirts for my oldest (going into 7th grade) to wear to school. They can wear anything as long as it is khaki (tan) in color. The girls cannot wear skorts so skirts with little shorts under are a no-no. Can anyone help by steering me where to look? I've tried the old standby's Old Navy and Gap...but those aren't hip enough...too little girl. I've also been to Abercrombie (got her pants there) and American Eagle. I am really out of ideas. She is either a 14slim (Abercrombie is perfect) or 00 in AE. HELP!

Gosh, you guys are teeny!!! Ann Taylor's clothes always looked really small to me. I know some tiny girls who have been able to wear their clothes. The only other brand I can think of that is tiny is Juicy. Their things run really small, don't they?

Try Hollister (younger/trendier co. owned by Abercrombie), Express, Urban Outfitters, American Eagle, Aeropostale?

Those are some off the top of my head.

I walked into a Forever 21 store a few months ago and was impressed with the selection of hip but not sleazy-hip clothes there. Your daughter is entering that really difficult clothing age.....we just passed through it with my now Freshman granddaughter.

I was going to suggested them but wasn't sure if it would have been to grown up. You should be able to find something there. The prices are really reasonable.

Thank you for the suggestions. You are right...she is entering a difficult age. She is almost 12 and is already 5'2" and wears a ladies sized 8 shoe. I have the shoes covered, but the clothes are much more difficult. I'm going to hit the mall tomorrow.

I saw a news special once on how sizes at Gap and stores like that now a days inflate their sizes... meaning what used to be a size 6 now is size 8 and so on. I generally wear size 2 or 4 depending on the store and type of clothing but I know I am not that small!!! I bet the food industry is behind all this... but this is all off the topic.

yeah I was gonna say.. banana rep doesnt fit me either.. i'm around your daughter's size. I shop at Guess.. but that isnt very good school clothes.. haha.. its kinda skimpy. I buy a lot from Express (even though their stuff is kinda big too)... the limited (it runs big too so you just have to try on everything and sometimes it just doesnt fit.. it depends on the style)...
Dont you live by the short hills mall? You try there? I dunno if price is an issue but a lot of those stores in there have smaller sizes.

wow she is the exact same size as my neice. my neice is 13 this year and won't stop growing. She will be very tall my husband is 6 feet tall her grand pa is 6 feet tall and her dad is even taller. It's funny all the ladies are short... lol even me.
She now wears a size 8 shoes or even 9 depending on the shoe. She whent from a 4 to an 8 in months... here I was thinking I could give her some of my shoe's I have never worn... and she grow right pass a size 6

. It hard finding dress shoes for her.. as they are all really ladies shoes. We currently go to ladies stores that carry small sizes for her because she is so tall.

Since my body is nowhere near a standard Korean body (I'm 36-26-36, I tend to do all my shopping online. However, due to international shipping costs, I'm forced to shop only sales. I LOVE clearance sales. I just got my order in from llbean....all I can say is that everything better shrink in the dryer! ANyway, does anyone know of any good sales that are going on? Or, can anyone recommend any sites for me? I like to wear long skirts, long dresses--nothing that shows a lot of skin. I prefer cotton-everything. I won't wear wool, cashmere, silk, leather, etc. Help?

Anthropologie has retail stores, but none near us, so they do some shopping via the catalog.

This is the mother in me speaking - I think the stuff from J Crew, Banana Republic, etc. is very cute. I am usually disgusted that people pay the money for the clothes from Abercrombie. TO ME most of it looks like it came from the rag bag. And I just can't stand being in the store because of the loud music. My daughter's exboyfriend worked for A&F and said that the music was loud on purpose to encourage you to get in, make your selection, and get out. That is the end of the 40 something editorial comment. LOL

J Jill has cute clothes that you might like. Their site does not show their "style" at all and you should probably order a catalog so you can see complete outfits, etc. J. Jill

I couldn't agree more! I cannot stand the loud music....and the price they expect for a pair of jeans that look like the rejects from the GoodWill pile.....don't get me started. It is so hard to find appropriate clothing for her age. She is a skinny minnie and unfortunately, everything is either cut too large (children's sizes) or inappropriate for a 12 year old. I think I'm going to have to resort to having clothes made because I am having a hard time. I am most in need of skirts, and I've tried Land's End, LLBean, JCrew..to no avail. I've looked at those stores mentioned in this thread, but nothing on-line that looks appropriate. I think I'm going to have to spend a day at the mall (which I hate to do) to do a search and find mission. Thanks again to everyone, and please please keep me in mind if you see any cute khaki skirts!
