I recently lost my best friend Benji, that I assume was a mix of maltese and something else. I would love to get a similar puppy in the future, because he was a little bigger at about 12 lbs, which I kinda liked. If you have any imput as to what he may have been mixed with, please post your thoughts.

Your Benji is darling!!! I'm so sorry you lost him.. it is a terrible heartache!

You might want to look into a rescue... I've found it to be a fantastic experience!

My Quincy is all maltese but apparently the 'dad' was from a New Zealand breeder ( If I recall correctly) and was bred to be of 'sturdier' stock. He's short legged, and short body but his structure is very 'rotund' meaning his ribcage is quite 'rounded'. He weighs 13 pounds+ .
Now Naddie ( heritage unknown) is abt the same weight give or take a few ounces yet she is structurally much leaner/longer, and longer legged. She looks 2x his size yet they only vary in weight by a few ounces.

It has been thought Naddie is Maltese mixed with either bichon or havanese.
The photo shows the difference in size ( yet weight not that different)

Sorry for your loss. I bet Benji was a wonderful companion, and he was very handsome.

He looks pretty much maltese to me.

I've seen a litter of pups once who were one half bichon and one half yorkie.....,each pup in the litter looked different. It's hard to get exactly what you want in a mixed breed, but if you go to a breeder who knows their lines, tell them what you want. Or if you choose to rescue a dog, you'll already know what you're getting.

Good luck in your search.

Hi!

Sorry to hear about your loss.

I think Benji looks all maltese, also. My Teddy is
about 10-12 pounds and he is definitely a sturdy
little boy.

Like others have mentioned, if you talk to a breeder,
they may have larger pups from time to time. Or, you
can always rescue. There are many maltese out there
waiting for their forever homes.

Good luck in your search.

Pet adoption: Want a dog or cat? Adopt a pet on Petfinder

There are many adorable Maltese mixes on Petfinder just waiting for you to give them a forever home. Your dog may have been a pure Maltese, or a Maltese bichon mix, it's hard to say.

The important thing is that you loved him, and still have a lot of love left for a new companion.

I am sure that you will find a new perfect baby on petfinder.

So sorry for your loss.

OMG your Benji looks exactly like my Shiro, who passed away about a year ago. I'm so sorry for your loss and I'm sure he was a very special guy.

When I got my malt Diesel, I specifically asked for a puppy that would be larger than the standard. Shiro weight would waiver between 10-11 lbs., so I wanted a similar size. The breeder got it pretty close. Diesel is 9 lbs and just as sturdy as Shiro was. Once you find a breeder you like, just tell them what you're looking for and I'm sure they can help you.

Just saw this msg. and wanted to join w/all who grieve w/you! We know exactly how deep that hole is in your heart!::grouphug::grouphug:
My daughter gave me some really good advice when I was looking at a rescue pup---which we adopted---she said "try and get something a little different than your Kirby mom, that way you will accept who HE is and he will accept who you are." I am glad we went that route---our little Bo was so different from all the other maltese we had had---more like your pup---and we loved him for himself and not because he met our needs!
I will pray you will be comforted & that you will find just the right pup! Post some photos when you bring him/her home.:yes:

Did you look at Northcentral Maltese Rescue in Racine WI, a great organization who we love and try to help when a dog needs surgery or transport on SM. Don't know if I'm allowed to put the link here but you can Google them. I'm seeing Diva, Sugar and Gizmo who look great :wub: and are in your area. Please try to rescue especially if you're looking for a hearty, larger Malt. Since the Maltese standard is 4-7 lbs I doubt you'll get a dog from a reputable breeder who is close to your beloved Benji's size.
