Debbie - I'm as blind as a bat and feel totally off kilter with my glasses off so I know I can't hear as well. Interestingly I also used to produce videos for a hospital's cochlear implant department and one of the ways to test if the implant was working was for the therapist to put a paper in front of her mouth and see if the patient heard her. She told me how we all pick up clues by looking at people's lips and also face, even though we aren't officially lip reading.
