Hello everyone! I've lurked on and off over the past 11 yrs. I have an 11 year old Maltese that was just diagnosed with stage 2 Congestive Heart Failure and I've come here for more info and support. This is all heart breaking to me and I know all of you understand the relationship between us and our Malteses!

Thanks for letting me join your community, I hope everyone is having a fabulous day!

Hi TwoCrows. I have lurked here since 2008. I am so sorry to hear about your baby. My baby recently turned 12. I do believe it is a relationship like no other.
Best wishes to you and your baby.

Kelsey, who is 12 now, was diagnosed with a low-grade heart murmur 2 years ago. Friends, who had been thru this, urged me to go to a specialist, a doggie Cardiologist, and have an echo done. I did and am very very glad. Kelsey sees her every nine months & gets another echo. He's on Vetmedin & cough syrup and is doing fine. Actually, he sees his Cardiologist this month. I can't say enough good things about taking our babies to specialists. They have the equipment and the expertise to diagnose and treat problems. Yes, they're more expensive than a non-specialist, but I've found I get an immediate diagnosis and treatment plan as opposed to taking them back & forth to the non-specialist.

Thank you for the welcome and this info on Kelsey! Glad to hear she is doing so well with the specialist! I have heard of Vetmedin, what exactly is it? Vet presciption?
