Inflation?!?!?

When did curtains get so expensive?!?! I haven't purchased curtains in almost 8 years (I had beautiful ones for my dinning room and the rest were gifted to me by my mother) but its time to buy new ones for both my livingroom and dinning room and new guest room.

I can't believe the expense! I need lined curtains due to the cold winters we get and I need 4 panels for each room - I can't seem to find panels for under $40 each - that's $400 for curtains:blink:. What on earth is a girl to do before winter???

Yep, they are expensive alright......but new curtains really make a room...you gonna paint too?
Oh my!! Do you know anyone that can sew? That might be a cheaper alternative.... I would hate for you to have to spend that much on just curtains!
One of the big reasons I sew! Sometimes you can catch some great deals at JCPennys online.

I agree. Try Penney's or Overstock.com.

The price of fabric has gone up so much, it really wouldn't be any cheaper to make them yourself.
Yes, curtains are so expensive now. Unfortunately it's not any less expensive to make them yourself...I had priced it out before and even with coupons at fabric stores it is still pricey.

I agree, check Overstock...although if you are like me, I would much rather be able to feel/see them in person. I like some of the options at Target but I am not sure what they have available that is lined. I like the suggestion of checking periodically at JCPenney, as they usually have huge discounts when they do have a sale.

What style/colors are you looking for? Solid? Patterned? I love looking at household stuff!
If you do find something online be sure to do a google search for coupon codes. Some sites even let you stack coupons to save more :)
Over stock is good also try Homegoods store and TJ Maxx.
Erin I have a huge 12" (maybe more) wide window in my living room and was thrilled to buy sheers, insulated drapes and the special wooden rings for it all at amazing LOW prices on JC Penney clearance online with allot to choose from and there were offers for free shipping.. This was ? 2 years ago and maybe the prices are still digestable...
I have been looking for black out drapes for my bedroom, I looked at Bed Bath and Beyond I'm waiting for their coupon to come out so I can get them. My bedroom window is average size the drapes are $50.00, but I also have to get the rod. Ugh
I just checked out JCPenney and I like a few of their drapes - I am going to go to the store this week to see if they have any in person. Lisa, I am just like you - I like to touch and feel what I am buying when it comes to home stuff as I dislike the hassle and cost of shipping back and forth!
Blair has alot of curtains on sale right now.. I am planning on doing my whole house in new curtains and i think that is where i am going to get mine. They have some really good prices plus the curtains are pretty as well. Good luck
I needed full length drapes for the living room and dining area in our house in Vermont a few years ago. Same thing - totally lined. I had them made and they were double the price that they had been in the past. I was shocked since they cost about $800!! Luckily they've lasted but they also looked different than I expected since I had them made after seeing only a swatch.Very different on a big area being that they have stripes. I dread replacing them. But I did buy cheaper ones in the bedrooms and they aren't lasting at all:( So sometimes you end up getting what you pay for.

I just love black out drapes, I love how they make the room extra dark.
And I even sleep with a sleep mask. And pull the covers over my head...lol

What about Ikea for drapes, Erin?
