K9 advantix--HELP

HELP! Kitzel got K9 advantix this AM and it has been awful---vomiting, trembling like crazy, crying & lying on the hard floor almost unable to move. I washed it finally with dish soap after reading about the side-effects on the web page!!!!! I can't reach my vet until this afternoon after 5:30. After the washing-off he is lying still in my lap at least. Has this happened to anyone else? We have Kalazar here so he has to use something for mosquitos. Any advice appreciated!:smpullhair::smpullhair::smpullhair::smpullhair::smpullhair::smpullhair::smpullhair::smpullhair:

Do you have an ER vet? K9 Advantix contains permethrin which can be very dangerous. We have a little Yorkie on another forum I belong to at the vets now fighting for his life after a dose of Vectra 3D which also contains permethrin.

This explains permethrin toxicity:

ooo god im no help , will be praying for kitzel .
Poor little doll. That is a potential risk of using K9 Advantix. Hopefully he'll be feeling better quickly. For mosquito repellent I've always rubbed the dog down with a used dryer sheet. Its worked for us...I'm sure someone can suggest something more natural for you.
Oh no! Prayers to Kitzel! I hope he is ok!!

I agree take him to a vet emergency room - let us know how he is.
Kitzel update

Thanks to those who wrote, advised, prayed??? We are home from the vet. Unfortunately I have to use a vet here I can talk w/which limits me--my vet is excellent & we speak German together (I really don't speak Greek). As I said before I washed off the advantix w/dish detergent---the vet was very concerned & put him on infusion as soon as we arrived---he looked awful and could hardly lift his little head---she gave him a shot for pain & it helped him relax. We brought him home after about an hour and he has been sleeping ever since. I am keeping a very close eye on him.
Just be warned about this product. I know that it doesn't affect all dogs but Kitzel seems to be sensitive to shots and chemicals---I will NEVER use it again. I now have to find something against mosquitos. We have a deadly disease here and many dogs die from it---it has a mosquito or sand-fly vector. Any advice appreciated!:smhelp::smhelp:

Oh my, I hope Kitzel recovers completely. What a scare! I would highly recommend finding an emergency vet in your area that you can communicate with - you never know when you will need one!
Sandi - I just read this. I'm so sorry about what happened to poor Kitzel. Thank goodness you got him to the vet and I agree, keep an eye on him. The only thing I've heard too is the dryer sheets - used them out at the beach with my cousin's dog. Do they have them there or do you need one of us to send some sheets in an envelope to you to try? Sending prayers and thoughts for recovery.:grouphug:
If you have access to homeopathic remedies, there is a detox formula that I've given in the past after vaccinations and illness which might help. If you don't have access to homeopathic products, then oregano and lemon are great for detoxing. Being in Greece, I am sure you have them. You can make a soothing warm tea for your fluff with some water, lemon, and a pinch of fresh oregano. Add some honey, and I am sure he will drink it.

Suzan, do you have any suggestions for a safe, all natural mosquito repellent for Kitzel?

I found this:

Make Your Own Natural Bug Repellent Using Essential Oils Hilltown Families
Mosquito repellent can be made up of several essential oils suspended in purified water. Fill a spray bottle with purified water, then add a few drops of lavender, lemongrass, eucalyptus, and geranium oils, plus one drop of citronella oil (just one drop, as it can be harsh) Make sure that the oils are 100% pure essential oils. Spray it on your dog.

Or if you don't want to make up the oils yourself, you could try this: Anti Bug Balm by Badger - WX-1018 - at The Vitamin Shoppe
Thanks for posting that recipe Suzan! My daughter and I are highly allergic to mosquitos and I will be making some of that for the fluffs and us!

I hope your fluff feels better soon!
How scary. Hope your baby feels better real soon.
wow how scary!!! Sure hope sweet Kitzel feels better soon
Yikes! Thanks Marj. I'll have to get in touch with my cousin right away. She would rub one lightly on her beagle and carry a sheet in her pocket. Very scary. Why would anyone use them on their clothes?
I haven't used dryer sheets in years. They're toxic.
Oh Sandy I am so sorry about Kitzel! We wish him a speedy recovery! I just put k9 advantix on Halle for the 1st time a few days ago. My vet and groomer reccomends that product over the others. Geesh.
