Hi new member here. My Maltese is almost 6 years old. All of a sudden 3 weeks ago she started with a slight limp back left leg. Now it has become useless….like she has no feeling in it. The vet said there’s no pain sensation and seems to be a nerve issue. Where I live we don’t have readily available MRIs or anything for dogs. X-rays showed everything looked pretty normal. It just all happened so fast and now the little leg just dangles and he can’t really bear any weight on it. Anyone else had anything like this happen?

My advice, if you are in TX, is to have your vet refer you to TX. A & M small animal practice. You may want to plan to spend the night in the town there & have them diagnose your pups leg. I have been there twice---one trip was very positive & one less so. Kitzel actually had a surgery there. I think what they do best is diagnostics. I sure hope you find some help quickly.

My dog had spinal aneurysm. I went to vet hospital in Dallas. His leg went limp and he couldn't stand. The A&M hospital is highly recommended that someone else mentioned. They told me he would recover and never have another. He recovered within several weeks. The leg affected by it was his back leg. But, you should find out what's wrong and he probably needs good Vet hospital with MRI.

Thanks so much for the reply. That’s exactly what happened to him, back leg just went limp all of a sudden. We have an appt at A&M next Wednesday so hopefully will get some answers. So glad your pup recovered.

That happened to my maltese and found out she had torn her ACL and it had to be repaired , was completely torn the surgeon said, the procedure was NOT the aggressive plate done for bigger dogs , its somehow tied and fuses back i think.
Anyway , i believe she just wiped out on our hardwood or twisted it barking and running around my grandson who was just sitting... don't worry I don't let him chase her.
Good luck, I hope it goes okay.
