Licking his own pee

Today I noticed that after he pees, he'll lick it once or twice!! I don't know what's going on?? He never did this before. His water bowl is filled. I did a search online and some people suggested that it is because of nutritional imbalance? I only feed him Wellness Puppy canned food now while he's growing his teeth, could it be that the wet food isn't as good as dry dog food? I tried to mix in some dry food too but he'd just spit them right out.

I don't know Sarah so I'll wait for others to reply. My pup gets Wellness canned too. And now for the first time, he eats the wellness kibble a bit where as before I had to wet it.
Do you mean he licks the pee on the wee wee pad or wherever he goes? or he licks his private part? My pup "grooms" right after he pees for some time now and I've wondered if this is normal too? I'll wait for the replies too.

Lapping at a pool of pee doesn't sound like something that normally occurs. But cleaing themselves afterwards IS normal.

Unfortunately, I'm talking about the pool of pee.........He doesn't try to drink it, but licks it and taste. yuck.

Some dogs seem to need to smell and taste items. Some do this with poop too. My Tristan will smell something on my hand and then lick it too. I think it is part of the smelling process. We smell things that we don't even realize we are doing it. It's probably nothing to worry about.

I'd definitely put a call in to your vet and ask. I don't think licking his own pee is normal. Is this a new behavior?
