Indy is 9 months old and we have never brought him to a groomer ( it shows too...hehehe) we have always taken care of him ourselves. His matts are just getting to hard to deal with, they are the worst around his head, like his neck, ears and under his chin. He just hates us going any where near his head to do anything. He will turn his head around and grab the hair I am trying to comb and start chewing it
I don't want to cut his hair on his face, but I'm not sure how to keep it and not have the matts
I thought he would get better about grooming as he got older, which he has except for his head area, he is worse about that. I have tried every thing as far as products to help his hair not become matted, but he is always scratching his ears and chewing or washing whatever he can reach on his head! The Vet said he didn't have an infection, but I think he does now so he has an appt. tomorrow. It is hard to keep him from matting when he won't let me take the time to comb/brush those areas like they should be. The rest of him I can handle, he even sits down and lets me brush/comb the rest of him. Any way I am going with a puppy cut...... and as far as his head and face, I just don't know yet. I am going to look at the gallery for ideas

I am open to Any suggestions,

I hope it comes out well enough to show pictures of
This is our first time taking him to a groomer and the first time with this groomer. My Vet recommended her to us, he said she is used to grooming little ones like Indy
I'm just not sure how I want her to do his head and face

Aww, I'm sure Indy will look adorable (it would be hard for him not to look adorable
) Maybe his mats are especially tough now because his adult coat is coming in. 9/10 months is about when it happened to Peanut...he was a five pound ball of tangles

A couple things to consider for the face.... one is whether you want the goatee or not.... the hair under the chin. Kallie used to have it but I cut her ears short and her goatee one day after she was groomed as I just had a feeling it would work for her. I think she looks a lot better that way.

Then you'll need to think of how to handle the hair at their forehead area. Have you seen the pics of 3MaltMom's babies. They look darling after their groom.

Well, like I mentioned in my original post, I was thinking Indy had an ear infection. I took Indy to the Vet....last night. He still doesn't think it is an infection
but he did get to see him scratching his ears a lot
He thinks it may be allergies. so we will give him Benadryl as see if that helps. Meantime he helped me get out Indy's matts that he formed and wouldn't let me touch
Now he is matt free and ready for the groomer on Friday

Thank you for the link to the picture...I love pictures
I think I really want to keep the goatee, he just looks so cute when he looks up at me with that face full of hair
I love the picture in your sig. of Catcher...They are both so adorable
I think I want to have them cut Indy's hair something like Catcher, but without the top knot. Hubby says no bows for Littleman
I tried telling him it could be manly and blue, but no go.......

Oh No!! We have to wait another week for pictures??  We can't take
the suspense.

Just remember they can cut or trim the hair but
they can't cut your little furbaby's personality.

Oh, you guys all have such adorable little babies
I think maybe I'm just afraid to cut his goatee
I know Maltese are different and their hair grows back, but we had a Shepard Collie mix and he was so handsome with his goatee and longer Collie like hair. We took him to a new groomer in our area and asked them to just trim him a little on his body, but leave the length and leave his face alone! We went to pick him up and almost cried, well I did a little. They had shaved him down completely and his beautiful Collie face now had no goatee and he looked like a shepard with very short hair
His goatee never fully grew back full and long like it was, neither did the rest of his body hair and I wanted to strangle the groomer that did this to him
! I will look for a couple of before and after photo's of him to scan and post to show you guys. So I know that's why I have been so afraid to take Indy to a groomer and am afraid to have them touch his goatee
I am hoping that because our Vets office referred this groomer to us that she will be good. So if you are all wondering why I am so nervous over this grooming Friday, that is why...a very bad former grooming experience

I hope it all goes well for you and your guy! I am partial to the puppy cut. I have had Toby cut in everything from a super short cut (0.5 inch to almost 4 inches).

Try taking a look through the SM gallery to find cuts you like to show the groomer.

It didn't
I had to cancel due to a family illness. I will go into it more later on the anything goes board. But I did take some pictures this week so I could have some before photo's and I will have my hubby load them on our computer and then I will post a few here later. They are not the best pictures, I was alone and Indy just wanted to play
But at least they will be more up to date than the one I have as my avitar from when he was a puppy

Thank you for checking in on us
