Loca's Vet Visit

3196 Views 57 Replies 26 Participants Last post by  Furbaby's Mommie
The vet just called me back and let me know that they had just finished the ultrasound and both her heart and trachea look ok. There is a slight enlargement on one of the ventricle's (spellcheck) but he said that it was more than likely something she would outgrow and could have been caused by an earlier respitory distress. It looks like she had a pretty bad upper respitory at one point in time but is on the mend from that so we are all good. there. They are drawing the last blood for her bile acid test in a hour then I can go get her. Does anyone know do I get the results right away from that or do I have to wait?

Oh and the best part she gained almost 2 whole ounces!!!! He said she may just have been stunted from the coccidea and upper respitory infection or just not eating because she didn't feel well.

I told him what I was thinking about doing. He offered me a "gift card" of sorts. I guess the hospital (which he owns) does what they call "care credit" for major surgery's and such so those who can't afford the cost upfront can make monthly payments. But he said that he would allow me to put money on an acct for Loca in case she needs surgery or it can be used for her routine vet bills.

So here is my plan and I am open to suggestions. I called Margie to see if she will be home today and she will be. I am going to put Loca in a basket, with toys, food, dishes, a brush, treats, and the gift card from the vet. I am going to set it on her doorstep and ring her bell. I want to run and hide but I have to remember I am almost 40 so I must act like an adult, so I will just stand a few feet back. I will explain the gift and go from there.

So thats the plan what do yall think? I am getting so excited. I love giving presents I just wish I could wrap her better, but I can't get her to sit still for a decent picture so that idea is out.

Makes you really appreciate our nice, sedate adult dogs, huh?

Here's hoping that she passes her bile acids test with flying colors!

Even my Kallie rolls her eyes at my baby Catcher.... Last night I thought they were awfully quiet and went in to the dining room and Catcher was chewing on a dining room chair
and Kallie was just lying nearby with a look on her face, like.... "Gee aren't these puppies a pain." But actually, I don't mind puppies at all. I did with my first Maltese, Rosebud. I had a hard time dealing with her puppy antics because it was so new to me. Now that I am "seasoned" I really love being around puppies....

You are amazing out 2000 ish and vet bills... What a wonderful friend. I know how you feel .I have two friends I made at work like that for over 12 years now. I would do anything for them. I call them my sisters.
May I suggest you hand her the gift before she buys a new puppy.
I would be in tears if someone dropped a Maltese off for me... your so thoughtful.

I'm back.... I am not sure how to explain it other than it went better than I had ever imagined. I tried to put Loca in a basket didn't really work as she either jumped out, ate the wicker, or removed everything else. So I just left her in the car for a min. I handed Margie the basket and told her this is for the new puppy she had been wanting... She said thanks and all that. How it would help cut the cost of the puppy and motivate her to really start looking blah, blah blah. I said I left my cell in the car and went to go grab Loca. I handed her Loca and said if you want her she's yours. Ok should of brought kleenex. She's crying, I am crying, Loca is looking at us like yall are wierd play w/ me. I put enough on her acct at the vet to cover the ultrasound and spay and remaining shots. The best part of it all is my vet gave me a HUGE discount as he knew the story and I was prepaying. I explained it all to Margie. Can I just say this was the best thing I could have ever done for her. I don't know if I truelly realized how lonly and lost she felt. She was trying to explain to me how hard it was not only to lose her husband of 40 odd years but to lose her job for all intents and purposes as all of her time had previously been devoted to caring for him. They never had children and her sisters are quite far from her. Of course I took tons of pictures I have to devolp now( I swear I need a digital camera). This could not have turned out better. I am going to stop by on my way home to check on them.
