My little Lovey was born blind..Her eyes never developed or opened. I need to know if there is anything I can safely use to clean her eyes. I wash her eyes daily with a warm wet washcloth, but I'm worried that they aren't clean enough, and I don't want any infection to take up residence..Any suggestions?????

Hopefully Deb (3MaltMom) will see this - she has LBB (Little Blind Billy) and can help you out!

Give Lovey a little hug from us.

Thanks, that would be fun..But.. I have more than one.. Right now there is Lovey, Kallie ,( who use to be Allie..from Cindy) Kayla, Kiley and Kinky..These three are Bichons, and I'm fostering little BB.. He's part maltese and we think Yorkie.. Sooooo cute, and soooooooo busy!!! :) If I walked into your group with all of these it would be like Alexanders Rag Time Band desending on you!!!! :)

Anniernc just joined today as well and also has a puppy that was born with undeveloped eyes/blind. You should talk to her. She had another dog that went blind so has some experience.

Hi Deb, I got your message, and answered it, but somehow it went to computer heaven..Just up and got raptured..:) Now I can't find your message again.. I am totally blundering through this site.. Help!!!! Anyway, the answer again is that Lovey has eyes in the sockets, but they are not developed enough so she could ever see , according to the specialist.. If the eyes got infected then we would have to remove the eyes and stitch them totally shut.. I'd rather not have to put her through that, so I want to be sure I can clean them well.. Any suggestions would really be appreciated.. Thanks

Yes, she does have an abundance of lubrication.. That's the problem really..Her eyes are a little runny and hard to keep clean with just water..I wash them several times a day, but they still look gunky...

Hi Liza, Yes, Longwwod is a growing town.. When I first moved here, the big excitement was going to the Saddle Up for $5.00 blue jeans...Now the traffic is painful!!
Taking care of the little ones gives me pleasure..I'm especially drawn to the ones who are either blind or on their way to that.. Actually a dog that can't see is much easier to raise than a sighted dog, in my opinion.. I've been working with them on and off for over 20 years now and they never fail to amaze me...They are special gifts from God I feel..
