I have a two year old teacup Maltese and every time I come home from work she drags her back legs but it doesn't last long. If I let her outside to walk around the yard she does it to I've had her checked and the vet can't find anything wrong does anyone know why she does this she's healthy and no health problems.

We need a better description of dragging her legs. Full on her belly or upright and sort of stretching ? Maybe a pic?

I'm so sorry to hear that. Maybe a defect because of being bred for tiny size. Could your vet refer you to a specialist? We are not DVMs.

The first thing I thought of was luxating patella (which my previous Maltese had in both back knees), but I assume the vet checked for that. Maybe she's just stiff after napping, and she's "working out the kinks" when you come home from work. Does this happen when she wakes up in the morning? You could ask your vet about a joint supplement like Dasaquin.

I'm not sure what you mean by "dragging her back legs" - Could you describe how she is moving around. Are her back legs being dragged behind her as she walks? Or is she scooting on her bottom? If so this could mean she has a sore butt or trying to clean it. Just an idea I thought I'd suggest.
Please keep us updated and let us know the outcome. We are all concerned.

Our Maltese does that too. Just in the past few months. She is almost 7 years old. The Vet recommended Cosequin which is a hip & joint supplement. We gave her the higher dose for just 3 days (called Cosequin DS) and it bothered her stomach but did help her. We stopped it because of it hurting her stomach. Since then I find that she is more prone to doing that on days when she isn’t eating right.
