Jolie has started to mark her territory as well as lift her leg up to pee, I mean really lift it up on trees and posts... I'm not sure if she is confused but I don't even see 10 month old boys lifting their leg this high. And she seems to be peeing everwhere outside, she will just dribbel a bit everytime so she has enough to spread around. Any other girls do this??

I have seen female dogs lift their legs outside quite a number of times and it sounds as though she is marking. Has she been spayed?

She will be getting spayed next week.

She will be 10 months on the 25th.... how do you tell if she is in heat? Oh!!! She is humping everything in sight. But nothing coming out of her daisy (blood).

She is old enough. I've never had a dog that went into heat before so I can't say for sure. I would call your vet and ask them. Just in case keep her away from any un-neutured males.

I adopted my beagle, Daisy, when she was about 6 or 7 years old. My bf and I think she was bred and might have had a few litters...anyhoo, when we go out walking, she will stop at trees and lift her leg and pee. When she is in the "mood"

...or whatever, she will get a pillow or a blanket and start humping it like no tomorrow... My bf said the peeing is territorial and the humping is assertiveness...telling the pillow who the #1 dog is! :lol:

I've seen Kylie do this every once in a while, but it seems more like a mechanism to pee and then get a running start away from the trickle...

She jumps away from it like it's a snake! Maybe she just doesn't want to get her feet wet?

Maltese are often very neat when they are in heat, and you might not see any bleeding. It sounds like this is what is going on though. Is her vulva swollen? If it is, she is probably in season. Watch it for the next few days, as it might just now be starting to swell. If this is the case, you might want to reschedule the spay, as it is more dangerous if they are in heat. One thing about dogs going into heat is that they begin to act strange a couple weeks prior to the actual heat. I can often tell when one of my girls is coming in because the other girls will ride her a couple weeks before.
I would definitely keep her away from all males until she is spayed. Ten months is about average for first heat. I've had some girls come in earlier. Also, some will have what is called a split heat. They can actually come in again within a short period of time.
And, for those who hold out for a female because they don't want to deal with the leg lifting. It's common with both sex.

My Sugar is spayed and she hikes all the time and she still marks her territory I have to get onto her, caught her peeing one time on my bed and she seems to do this after I have new puppies in the house.

My Sassy also lifts her leg to mark everywhere outside. She used to mark in my home but finally she realized I was alpha and that would not be tolerated. Now she only makes on the pee pads with sometimes a poop in a strategic place to mark. On our walks she loves to sniff and mark on every spot she smells. My male Maltese, Skeeter only Squats. Sassy was spayed at 6.5 months while Skeeter was neutered at 7 months.
