My nice relaxing Sunday morning...NOT

First I have to say, I am NOT a morning person and there is nothing that I love more then to sleep in.:tender: Jett only lets me sleep in until around 7:00 though because he wants his breakfast. But I'm ok with that. Callie still wakes me up every couple of nights to take her out to potty. I really hope she outgrows this. So around 4:30 this morning Miss Callie wakes me with her tongue in my ear. Nothing like a wet willie wake up call. :HistericalSmiley: Of course Zoe & Jett decide they can't miss out and come too. I'm bleary eyed, it's dark, I have the porch light on and happen to notice only AFTER all three have been in the wet grass and are happily prancing on the patio with wet drippy legs and feet that there is a SWARM of ants!!! Literally a swarm spreading over 3 feet of my patio!:w00t:

And then I feel them on my feet and see them on all 12 drippy wet puppy paws!!:smpullhair::smpullhair::smpullhair: So I'm trying to contain Zoe on a towel on my kitchen counter with Jett and Callie in the kitchen sink trying to drown the nasty things while pulling them out of their leg hair. Dry their soppy legs as best I can so I can work on Zoe and kill any stray ants on the counter. Then I'm on my hands and knees killing any ants that came in with us on the kitchen floor. I had put the tea kettle on to boil water and now I'm outside pouring boiling water on these pests wanting to shout DIE YOU NASTY THINGS but refrain since I'd probably wake the neighbors and really don't want them seeing me straight out of bed in my jammies pouring what appears to be tea on my patio! :wacko1: There were so many ants it took 3 kettles of boiling water.

Too bad I forgot the large bottle of Peppermint Essential Oil I had purchased at one of the little shops at my store. I had noticed smaller ant swarms earlier that I killed with boiling water and knew I needed to spray some Peppermint Oil/Water mix to deter them from coming on my patio again.

Gotta get ready to meet the parents for lunch and then I'll be giving 3 fluffs a bath. Ahhh...nothing like a day of rest.:HistericalSmiley:

Oh man! lol I wonder what made the ants swarm like that? NOT a good way to wake up at all!

Kinda like when I hear my cat coughing up a hairball in the middle of the night. Its dark and I am just SURE I am going to step right in it...yuck
LMFAO ~ Crystal, that sounds like one of my days off ~ :HistericalSmiley:

Oh, and I hate ants. I came home one day, and there was a black trail, forking off, to all three dog bowls. At first, I thought one of the dogs was "scooping" his butt, and made a mess. I was horrified when I realized it was a gazillion ants IN MY HOUSE!!

I must have thrown out a $100 worth of dog food that day.

I love you, girlfriend. My thoughts, prayers, and pain, are with you.
Yikes!
Is it especially dry there this year that they might be looking for water---or do they just know how "sweet it is at your house?" :HistericalSmiley:
:wub:Be careful with the peppermint oil. It does kill ants but I have read somewhere that it is not good for animals. I too bought a hugh bottle for that same purpose and only after I got it, I read that.

Did they bite the babies or could you tell? I hate ants!!! They are so small but make a big mess!!! Sorry you did not get to sleep in!!!!
I can't find the article I read but here is one from the ASPCA. I know they won't get it ingested in large quantities but I am just afraid to use it. It is really dangerous to cats.

Aww Crystal. If only a video camera was rolling. :HistericalSmiley::HistericalSmiley: Crazy lady alert. :smpullhair: I just can't even imagine how you were doing all of that. Must have wished you were an octopus (vs. an octomom) scooping up the kids, cleaning them, stomping on aunts and then making ant stew on the patio.
The only time I had a similar middle of the night experience was in Vermont when I heard the garbage can on my front landing rattling.Expected to see a raccoon;instead it was a black bear. I was dancing around (in the house) banging things, switching lights on and off and he just thought I was a lunatic :smpullhair: and dragged the bag nearby for a smorgasbord. Maybe you should start today all over again, tomorrow. Have fun with your parents (if you can keep your eyes open).

:smpullhair: That was quite a wake up call!!! I HATE ants!!! I'm always afraid the fluffs are going to step in a missed ant pile - we have the dreaded fire ants. It's must have been horrible trying to get them out of all the fluff's hair.

Would have loved to see a pic of you making ant tea though. :smrofl:
oh no!! i hope the rest of your sunday can be peaceful and relaxing!!:Sunny Smile:
Oh Crystal, this sounds so much like my life sometimes! I feel for you, dear friend.
what a way to start the day...

my Sunday is almost over (almost 10 PM here) and it was relaxing.......NOT lol so don't feel bad; you aren't alone :p

hope the rest of the day is super for you

hugs
Kat
OMG! Were they fire ants? They are deadly. They can kill a cat or small dog.

I am so glad Lady will use pee pads! No more midnight potty calls!

I sure hope the rest of your day is better!
Well yikes!!!!! Not good but at least they weren't spiders......!!!!!

No little white fluff was bitten or harmed during this ant attack. And thanks for the heads up on Peppermint Oil. From what I can tell it's talking about straight Peppermint Oil given orally to a dog or cat for whatever reason. I put maybe 1-2 tbsp. into 8-10 oz of water and mix it in a spray bottle. Then I spray the outer edges of my patio. I don't think my babies could get too much that way. Otherwise, I know of no other safe way of preventing them from swarming my patio.

EeeGads! A bear!! Glad he was outside and not trying to get in! Bet you had really sweet dreams that night. lol

My lunch with my parents was lovely. However I finally put my foot down and took them (funny how I have so much control when I drive :innocent: ) to the Verizon Wireless store and got them cell phones. I spent almost 2 hours with them in the store helping them pick out the easiest one and then explaining it to them. The salesperson had given up by this time. lol Then we spent another hour in the parking lot as I set their ring tones and volumes, entered certain people into their contact list, and answered the same questions again. I REALLY need a nap! :smstarz:

After this experience, they may seriously be getting their leg hair trimmed!
And I did make myself a calming cup of tea once it was all over. :HistericalSmiley:

I'm sorry your day was not all that relaxing either. But at least I was in fine company! Hope you're peacefully sleeping right now having wonderful dreams my sweet little Kat. :grouphug:

Nope...no fire ants. Thankfully we don't have those here. These didn't bite thankfully but I think they can if you are on their nest.

Well yikes!!!!! Not good but at least they weren't spiders......!!!!!
Oh my gosh if they had been spiders my neighbors would have heard me screaming at least 2 miles away!

oh no!! i hope the rest of your sunday can be peaceful and relaxing!!:Sunny Smile:
I'm just getting home and I should be giving baths right now, but instead...I'm checking SM. May have a bit of a nap too.

Oh Crystal, this sounds so much like my life sometimes! I feel for you, dear friend.
lol...are you telling me we have the same luck? Oh I really hope not my friend.

I loved my kitty, Murhpy. But I do NOT miss those hacked up hairballs! Yep, they always seem to be right in the normal path you take. lol

Yikes!!! What a way to start the day!!!
Eeeek! Not a good way to start the day!
Wish I could have gone back to bed. Oh well...tomorrow will be better I'm thinking! :innocent:

Well I do have propensity for chocolate... And of course 3 of the sweetest white balls of fluff ever!

I have no idea why they are doing this. It happened a couple of times last summer too. We just had a big rain storm so it's not dry. And I don't eat on my patio so there's no food crumbs. Hope this is the last of them.

Wow ... what an adventure you had early this morning, Crystal!!!

We had a few big black ants sitting on our kitchen counter a few days ago. No more in sight! I've never seem them this big around here ... kind of freaked me out a little.

I'm always checking to make sure termites don't get in here. They travel in swarms a lot ... and, kind of look like ants to me. I've learned that different kinds of mulch near homes can attract termites.

I hope you get a good night's rest tonight, Crystal!
oh what a morning.....I hope they were the small ants (not those big fat ants, that fly then lose their wings, horror of horrors) .
Jodi walked against a cedar this morning and had a spider on his forehead...I had to contain my panic..I hate spiders, and brush it away. Giving me the willies just thinking about it.

The peppermint oil....does that work for earwigs too? they are a problem around my parent's house.

did you get back to sleep after all of that ????

oh yeah...I wish that was on video too...oh to be an fly, oops ant, on the wall!
:HistericalSmiley::HistericalSmiley::smrofl::smrofl: oh! Whoops....Hi Crystal! No.....I'm not laughing at you!!! no no no no....I'm laughing WITH you, my friend!!! I'm picturing you early this morning, before the sun came up....

Hey, isn't vinegar good for killing ants???? I'm using vinegar for most EVERYTHING these days....

OMG, my dogs are going crazy right now.....someone has the NERVE to be walking their dog past our house!!!:blink:....some times I wish it were off season again....:smilie_tischkante:
YUCK!!! We've had ant problems in every apartment I've ever lived in. One time we discovered their new path--coming in directly above the living room TV and pathing THROUGH the dining room to the kitchen--Christmas Eve. We duct-taped the hole they came in through since we weren't going to get any pest control help for a day or two. What a great thing to come home to. So glad we haven't seen them at the house....yet... :)
