Need Cellphone Suggestions

Hi all!

I need some help/advice with choosing a new cellphone. I'm with Verizon and I currently have the EnV. My sisters keep telling me to upgrade since my phone is so old. They came out with three or four versions of the EnV since I've purchased mine.:brownbag: LOL. I keep waiting to upgrade because I heard that the iPhone was coming to Verizon and that's the phone I really want (I really love my iPod Touch, btw). I've always wanted the iPhone but I refuse to go to AT&T (no offense...I'm just a long time, loyal customer to Verizon). Anyway, I'm debating between the DROID by Motorola and the Droid Incredible by HTC. They both have very great reviews (both 4.5 star ratings). The only major complaint is the short battery life. So, if anyone of you have Verizon, the DROID or Droid Incredible, or any other suggestions, let me know. I'd greatly appreciate the help. Thanks in advance!

I just saw on the news that iphone 4 will be out the 24th. I'd wait for that one. It looks awesome!
I own the HTC Droid Incredible and I would choose that hands down over the Moto Droid any day. Unless you 100% want a physical keyboard on your phone, I wouldn't go with the Motorola. The HTC is a million times faster, can do more, is thinner, etc, and the battery life is not bad.

The first two weeks of having the Incredible I wasn't so sure about the battery life, as it only lasted a single day with moderate usage, but the battery DOES improve. I was also tinkering with so many settings, playing around on it, etc. Now that the glamor has worn off a little on having such a cool phone, I get over 2 days of battery life w/ moderate usage before I charge it. For a smartphone (or computer, rather, lol) that is adequate.

My father owns the Moto Droid, and while he likes it, he now wishes he could upgrade to the Incredible. He thought he would use the keyboard, but it is SO horribly designed (even for smaller female hands) he never uses it...and goes for the touch screen keyboard.

If you ever use speakerphone in the car, the Incredible has a great speakerphone...just don't turn it up all the way, because it is LOUD. Reception is awesome, etc. I honestly have zero complaints about it, and I would choose an Android phone over an iPhone any day due to the open app market. Oh, and the Google navigation is awesome (I am horrible w/ directions) and accurate. :) The Incredible's camera is 8mp with a dual led flash and honestly takes great photos. Since my dad has the Moto Droid, we took the same photo standing next to each other, held the results next to one another, and the quality in picture was a huge difference. The Incredible has no lag on apps, etc whatsoever whereas certain apps take longer to load on the Moto because it's slower. Also, the 8 gigs of ram on board storage is nice to have on the Incredible...then you can also add your micro SD card if you want.

Is it going to be with Verizon? I haven't been keeping up with the iPhone news for a couple of months now so I'm not sure. The last time I read about it, they say maybe by the end of the year it will make its way to Verizon. I'll google that right now. Thanks Brit!

Hey Lisa! Thank you so much for this review. I was hoping to get some comparisons of the two since I can't really decide at this point but I was definitely leaning more towards the Incredible. I went to a Verizon store yesterday to look at their phones and I like the appearance of the Incredible more than the Droid. I thought the Droid is bulky whereas the Incredible is more sleek. I don't think the QWERTY keyboard will be a huge issue for me. My EnV has one and I never use it. I type/text a lot slower with the keyboard. And I do agree that the camera has great quality. I tried it out and loved it. The only thing, though, is when I went on the internet to look at YouTube videos, the videos were really blurry. I don't know if it was the quality of the video or the phone.

Oh my gosh, the video quality is amazing as well!!! I have a video I took of the dogs playing with a new toy on my phone from a few days ago...I would be happy to post it for you if I can figure out how. lol In my opinion, it looked like the same quality of a camcorder and wasn't choppy at all.

I'd love to see the video if you figure out how to post it. :) Maybe it was the YouTube videos then?

Pat, is that with AT&T or Verizon? I read an article yesterday and it says that the iPhone isn't coming to Verizon, at least not now. I'm a little confused.
I just read this the other day that something was coming out this fall with the iPhone and Verizon. I am also with Verizon and wish they would get it. The rumors may not be true but they also predicted that AT&T would keep the contract with iPhone........maybe they will expand. I am hoping!!!
my brother has the incredible and loves it, i just got the moto droid but havent even activated it yet, my fat fingers and touch screen keyboards dont workout well, the droid keyboard is about the same size as the one on my voyager and i love it, so we'll see how it goes
i have verizon and i have a blackberry , i had iphone before and i loved it , im going back as soon as it comes out , even if i have to pay a cancellation fee to verizon , i also thought it was coming to verizon but now it doesnt seem that way ..

some friends of mine have the droid n they like it alot ..

I just finished googling about the iPhone coming to Verizon. I'm hoping the iPhone comes to Verizon as well but it doesn't look too promising. But, I guess we'll wait and see. *Fingers Crossed* LOL.

I'm sure you'll love the Moto Droid. They both received really good reviews. :)

I read that they're making an iPhone, which will be compatible with Verizon, this September but it could all just be rumors. Neither Apple or Verizon has confirmed this. I have a friend who has an iPhone and she loves it. I want one so bad but I'm getting impatient so I think I might just go with the Incredible. LOL.
Pete and I just got LGs--buy one get one free w/ rebate. Our previous plan had expired. Only needs $10 per mo data package compared to the fancier phones that need $30+

I dont need my phone to do a whole lot--make calls, text, calendar and limited internet are enough for me. As it is I'm in front of a computer ALL DAY at work.

I'm very happy with it!
I have the moto droid.... I loved it when I first got it, but sometimes my texting goes out and I have to shut down my phone. That wouldn't bother me near as much if that didn't cause all my texts to be deleted..

Otherwise it's a pretty cool phone. I have tiny hands, so the keyboard is perfect for me as I hate typing on a touchscreen. If you have hands that are normal human being size... then you may not want to use the keyboard.
I got the Droid a few weeks ago and love it, especially the nagivation. I just wish I had time to figure out everything else that I can do with it!
Thank you so much everyone for your feedbacks/responses! I just got back from the mall and I bought the Droid Incredible. It's on back-order so I won't get it until mid-July. I'm really excited and can't wait to get my hands on it.

Btw, I asked the Verizon employee about the iPhone coming to Verizon and he said that's just a rumor. He said if anything, maybe in a few years. Just thought I'll pass that along. :D
i still havent activated my droid yet, maybe tommorow :smilie_tischkante:

I'm so happy you got the Incredible! You are going to love it. I've noticed the longer I've had it (and the less I tinker w/ it of course), the better the battery life is. I did download Advanced Task Killer (free) from the app market to kill my apps that are being unused. I do it every time I'm done using my phone and it's helped a lot. Also, if you keep GPS turned off except when you're wanting to use it (navigation, etc) that will really help your battery life. I leave mine on all the time now, because I'm almost always near somewhere I can charge my phone if needed, but in case you don't have access to charge it during the day I thought I'd let you know. :)
You have lost me with all that new stuff. I am old fashioned, I have a cell phone only for emergencies when I am doing shopping. Only my husband and daughter know the number. Half of the time the cell is turned off. I had T-Mobile block texting because I don't want to pay for text messages from people I don't know. My daughter just told me that my voice mail is not even set up. I pay 30$ a month for minutes I don't use but had to take that plan in case I go overseas and want to use the phone there. I can't use that darn phone in my house because I don't get a connection. And frankly I hate when somebody calls me on their cell phone because the sound is not as clear as on the land line or we are suddenly cut off. My contract comes up in fall.
