someone wrote about their baby having a ear infection, she had said she found some brown stuff in her babys ears. I noticed today while grooming Matilda has the same thing. I have been using a ear cleaner the vet gave me and otimax. need advise. I am leaving for Seattle tomorrow, so need to know if any of your babys have had this. Should I see the vet again?

If your pup does have the mites, then the cleaner, nor the Otimax will solve the whole problem. You need something to kill the mites, in addition to the other two. You can handle this without another vet visit. If you have a PetSmart or other store close by, you can buy OTC ear mite medicine. Another thing I learned from a groomer is that you can put a drop or two of the sprayon Frontline in each ear once a week for three weeks to kill them. Another thing is to use Revolution as your flea/tick care product.
The ear mite is something we fight here in the south, especially with the rescue work I do. Anytime I see a dog who looks like it even wants to start with tearing, I start checking for mites, as that is one of the things that will occur if you have them.

Matilda went to another vet 3 weeks ago that checked her ears and throat, he said she had a slight bronical infection and put her on clavamox and temni-p tablets. She still has some clavamox drops, enough for 4 treatments, I didn't give her many of the temni-p tablets. Do you think I should start her on those again? Last week I took her to her vet who checked her and said she was fine and gave her a rabies shot. She did well with the shot. Before I call my vet I just wanted some advise from all of you. Sometimes i think you all know more then the vets. Afterall you have the maltese babies. Do I need to see the vet again?

Can you take some of the gunk out and lay it on a piece of white paper? Does it look like ear wax turned brown, or does it have little specks to it? Also, does it stink?
It won't hurt to go on and treat as if you have ear mites. I've dealt with this a number of times, and you have what you need there, except for something to kill the mites, if that is what it is.
Sorry others aren't responding. If you could see some of these ears I get here in rescue, you would understand that I don't mind sharing information with you.

Matilda seems ok now, she isn't playing much, but she feels abit better. her ears had a light odor to them. but arien't red. the brown stuff was like ear wax. I didn't see anything in it. I guess we will just take the chance and go to Seattle. I have to be in Seattle cuz my daughter has cancer and is having surgery. I will be staying with her for a couple weeks. thanks for helping me.
