I think that all persons should explore all walks of life and try many different things, regardless of age or "disability". You never know what the Lord will have you doing or where you'll end up at.
Well, I have just discovered a job that I find very enjoyable (can be profittable too). That is carpet laying.
I recently had new carpet put down in my house. When the folks (there were 2 installers) came over to do it, I mentioned that I was wanting to help, so one of the workers left. Well, within 15 minutes, Charles & I had pulled up the entire carpet and padding in the living room/hallway, making the floor bare to the wood, rolled up the carpet and discarded out the door, and we took nails and tightened the tack strip down on the floor by renailing the tack strip every so often.
We got started at 8:15 am and at 8:30, we were ready to lay padding and carpet.
Well, the pad was a breeze. It took less than 30 minutes to lay the padding, cut it, and staple it to the floor. so, by 9:00, we were ready to lay carpet. Cutting the carpet was the tricky part, but boy it was so neat. I never knew that there was so much to it, yet so little....if that makes since............... hmmmmmmmm... sounds like an oxymoron, huh.
Well, we only had to seam it in one place..... the seam was only about 18" long. And we were able to match the designs PERFECTLY, and unless you know where to look, you can't see it.
Well, we used our knee kickers, carpet stretchers, trowels, and by 12:30, we were done.
Now, all I need to do is find some people that need new carpet put down so I can get some practice at it. I'm currently trying to work with a friend of ours that owns a carpet store..... so yall wish me luck!!!!
