Hi to all. First, I've been enjoying this site for about two weeks. I feel I have gained so much information that has been extremely helpful in my search for a puppy. Let me introduce myself...we have three children (all school aged and old enough to understand the delicate nature of the breed. We are getting our first Maltese in November. I have spent quite some time researching the breed and have found a very reputable breeder who also shows her dogs. We have two friends who have gotten their dogs (Maltese) from this same person, and their dogs are exactly what we are looking for as well. The mother of our pup is the sister of our friend's dog...so I think that makes our dog her niece? The breeder owns the mother and co-owns the father with another breeder. Both have won a few titles (although I cannot remember what they are off the top of my head.) We do not intend to show our dog, just enjoy her as a member of our family. We will be meeting the mother and father when we meet our pup in a few weeks....we won't be taking her home though until she is at least 12 weeks and 2 pounds. The breeder won't release her until she has met both.

I really don't have any questions at this point...most of them have been asked and answered on this forum! I am really glad I found this site and I look forward to sharing our new puppy updates.

Thanks all for the warm welcome. Waiting is the hardest part. But we are spending our time doing more homework on house training and have bought some really helpful books on the subject. I found a great book for children on how to train your dog with basic commands. My children are in 2nd, 4th and 6th grades, so they are reading all they can as well. We've already begun our "Chore Chart" for care of the puppy with places to mark feedings, walking times, clean-up times, etc. And we've decided to keep track of pup's activities as well...with space to record play, nap, potty and feeding times, so that we can get to know our pup's schedule too. Having never owned a dog before, I am a bit nervous about the house training, however, I've gotten a few good books on the subject and I think we can handle it. We are definitely training to go outside, not in. I am sure I'll have lots more to add when she arrives home around Thanksgiving.
We haven't settled on a name just yet...my husband likes Falcon (Maltese Falcon)...but I think that's a bit too macho sounding for a fluffy little girl. The girls want to call her princess, and of course my son is opting for Fido. Personally, I need to see her first before I can name her. I felt that way about my kids too. They have to look like their names...if that makes any sense.

We live at the beach, so I figured she'd be a Salty Dog? But you're right, salty would be a cute name. I'll keep that one in mind.
You know, I think Salty would be a wonderful name for a Maltese...I just need to see what she looks like to see if it fits her personality. This month has dragged by so slowly for us...Thanksgiving seems like a long time away! But I am sure it will be well worth the wait.

Thanks to all.
