No prepackaged or fast food dinner last night

So as many of you know, I've been trying to be better at not going through the drive-through places or purchasing the pre-packaged frozen dinners. I'm just trying to be a little healthier and feel better. I'm in no way near the league of you Susan, but hey...I'm trying.

So last night I almost succumb to going to Sub-Way, but instead notice a can of kidney beans in my pantry with a recipe for bean salad. It looked good so I thought, why not? I've got all the ingredients. It called for kidney beans, celery, onion, pepper, hard boiled eggs, chopped dill pickle, and italian salad dressing. I'm thinking, this is a complete meal in itself and it was actually pretty darn tasty...and filling! Yep...ate the whole salad myself! And feeling a bit proud of myself for putting together a pretty healthy meal. It would have been healthier if I had bought dried beans and soaked them, but the salad dressing was organic! Then somewhere in the wee small hours of the morning, I discovered that my 'healthy meal' was not such a good idea. Maybe as a side...but NOT as a full meal!:w00t: Needless to say, I was not feeling...how should I put it...lean and healthy! I could barely get my pants zipped this morning.:brownbag: And I'm just praying that this unexpected tummy pooch will dissipate soon. And along with the 'pooch', what is causing the pooch will dissipate soon too! :smheat: That's all I'm saying.

Think I'll hit Sub-Way on the way home tonight. :HistericalSmiley:

Ah, beans! :yucky:

I never eat them anymore. Too many carbs, and they have the same effect on me...:new_shocked:
Crystal - I feel (or have felt) your pain. I've found that along with a lot of the really healthy foods like beans, broccoli, cauliflower, kale comes their bi-product bloating and shall we say release of bloating. :w00t: Don't know what people do. Beano?? I personally can't eat onions at all -- severe stomach pains so even when i traveled abroad I had along the "no onion" translations. It's a shame because you do feel healthy eating these foods. You just have to do it alone or this way.:brownbag::HistericalSmiley:
Besides fresh or frozen GREEN BEANS I don't eat any beans. Never liked them, no matter the name.
My answer: EAT MEAT!!! Meat and salads. No bloat. No carbs.
ok, 2 hours walk on a treadmill is required now :p

Ditto  um alone in a well aired room :)

Still love ya
I think it just takes some time and getting used to. There is this great recipe in the New York Times for Red Lentil soup which I love! It was the first soup recipe I tried and if I can do it anyone can! It calls for olive oil, cilantro and lemon when you serve it and is mmm mmm good. I haven't yet used the cilantro (becuase I didn't have it at the time, but my mom always cooks with it and I'm sure my dad will love it) but I plan on using it next time around. I took some to work one day for lunch and my co-workers actually thought I had sausage in it - they loved how it smelled. I think it's a good idea to balance your diet with fruits, vegetables and beans every now and then. I too am a junkfood fanatic - I was going through this phase of eating Doritos and Pepsi for a while now (figured if it gave Ali Landry her great bod it would do the same for me - at least that was my excuse) but I was begining to get like a rolly polly. Sadly these foods are more economical around my job (getting a salad is quite expensive) so now that I don't live with my parents I'm forced to cook and therefore have food left over for lunch the next day - though I still do sometimes "forget" my lunch so that I can go to the nearest Subway for lunch LOL.

lol...Oh I do eat meat. But I do love my carbs. *sigh* I had done food combining years ago to keep me out of pain before I was finally diagnosed with Marked GERD. And honestly, as long as I did not mix meat with carbs, I was fine. I kept fruit separate too. So I really didn't think the salad would have this...ummm...effect on me.

Hey it's times like this you find out who truly loves you. My Zoe & Jett did not leave my side, the bed or the bedroom!:HistericalSmiley:
Good for you :) shame it was beans though. I know I couldn't eat them. Can't even eat much in the way of salad, particularly lettuce without tummy cramps. I even make Chili without beans. What we go through :smpullhair:

Oh no....are you telling me this is another pesky 'age related' thing?:hysteric:

LOL, oh Crystal I do hope your belly feels better. Drink lots of water if you can.

Aging can be pesky for sure, but has a fun side as well, when I find what that is, you'll be the first to know

Feel better.
Good for you!!!!! I try to avoid the processed stuff too, but when life just gets in the way, I think getting a subway sandwich (turkey or something healthier) on a wheat roll is Far Better/healthier than some of the other fast food choices out there ;) Congrats on the willpower last night!!! *maybe tape some beano to the other cans of beans that may be residing in the pantry haha*

Someone once told me that if you refrigerate the beans overnight, they won't cause gas. I've been refrigerating them ever since.

some people have problems with eating garlic, especially raw. When my mom was in the hospital for colon surgery, there was a lady in the same room on observation and tests because of stomach problems. Her family brought in every day food for her. The all room stank (and when I say stank, I mean it) after garlic. The nurse one time came in, looked at my mom and asked her if she can stand that and he went straight to open the window. If you really think about it, her stomach problem could have been brought on by all the garlic in her food.

I do my chili without beans too.
Aunty, my mom loves beans, too.

Q: What would you call the definition of surprise?
A: A fart with a lump in it. :HistericalSmiley:

Love, LBB

i eat a lot of wt. watchers frozen meals, salad & cereal.
when i eat meat - it's usually from whole foods - like a stuffed cornish game hen..
