OK...Frosty began with eating RC, but stopped eating it all of a sudden, so we switched to Hill's from our vet. Not a good choice for Frosty evidently, she wouldn't eat it either. So we tried Eukanuba, which she ate for a little while, but again stopped eating. Then we got Dafney, my min.l.h. dachschund. She was eating RC, but I wanted them to be on the same food to make it a little easier for me if possible. Needless to say, Frosty had not eaten well, and Dafney had turned her nose up frequently to a variety of foods. We finally decided to try Nutro, although I wasn't thrilled since I have heard neg. things. But what is better for our babies? Eating a lesser than the best food, or eating only enough to survive better food? Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

My dogs are way picky too....and they did not like anything I bought until Science Diet lamb/rice. I wasn't going to change, but the place where I buy it didn't have the small bites so I had to get Nutro Natural Choice Lamb/Rice small bites and they like it!!! I couldn't believe it! I got all those really expensive, well made foods and they turned their nose up at it. LOL

Mine both are eating Nutro Natural Choice. I used to feed Tuffy Flint River and I really think it was too rich for him. He always had soft stools on Flint River and several visits to the vet never seemed to cure it. Pixie's breeder suggested I try Nutro and at first I was like, no way, that's not a holistic fancy dog food but her dogs are gorgeous, healthy as can be so I just had to give it a shot. Tuffy's stools are now solid and his coat looks great and he just seems to be doing really good on it. Pixie is also doing great on it..her coat is so unbelievably shiny and pretty and she loves it. At least for now, I give it a thumbs up.

I would rather they eat enough.  The best food in the world isn't doing the dogs any good if they're not eating it
.  Peanut's very picky, and he loves artemis small breed.

Here's our trial path:

Eukanuba , BilJac, Natural Balance Sweet Potato &Salmon AND the General formula, NOW we are on the Artemis like you are.

I have to say that he likes Artemis the best and I like what I read off of their label too! We still have Natural balance food to give him so he wouldnt get bored...

I know what you mean Paris'mom!! I've tried every dog food out there...even the not so great ones, but Peanut has been on artemis for so long compared to the other foods we've tried. Flint River had to be shipped out to us, and he NEVER even tasted a piece -_- ! I got lots of advice that when he's hungry he'll learn to eat what's available, but more often than not Nutty would rather starve. I split Tic's portion to half artemis and half wellness lamb (Tics been having poo issues) and they are both doing great

For those of us here that have picky eaters, do you free feed them, leave their dry food out all day?  This could be part of the problem of them not eating.

That's very true. My doggy used to be a super picky eater when the food was out all day long. Now that he is on a 2x/day schedule, he eats everything!!

Indy loves the Nutro Natural Choice small bites and he has done well on it as far as not having any stomach upset and his stools are good etc. Our Vet was happy when he asked what we were feeding him, he said it was a good food. Also a breeder of Maltese ( she shows them also and is an AKC judge) is the one that had told us about it when we were asking her for advice before we got Indy. I have heard both good and bad on the boards from people as far as how their little ones did on it, so I think as with all things it depends on your little one. Like someone mentioned if they won't eat it, then no matter how good it is,it isn't good for them. The one thing is if you decide to give it a try and don't like it or your little one won't eat it, just bring it back (with the sale slip) to where you bought it. You can get your money back, Nutro has a thing on the back of the package that says to do that, so you won't have to worry about wasting money or having it hanging around unused for months.

Thanks for all the info. Frosty has tried so many foods, and at times I have left food out all day, like when she would go on strike, and I was afraid of hypoglycimic (sp?) shock. Even then she would not touch it. But now she is on a 2x a day schedule. In the morning she gets part Nutro Natural Balance mixed with Hill's WD canned and a little warm water. She licks the bowl dry. In the evening she gets just the Nutro dry, and eats every last kibble most nights and if Dafney doesn't eat all of hers, Frosty just might finish hers off as well. How funny all these babies can be!

I have the TOUGHEST PICKY PUPPY IN THE WORLD! I tried everything... She even got tired of chicken breast. I wanted her on an all natural kibble.. Tried MANY.... Finally thank goodness, she has taken to "Merrick Puppy Plate". It has peas, carrots & potatoes in it! She really likes it. Cha Cha is a 3lb puppy (full grown), and I need to cut each piece of the kibble into 4 pieces... Very, Very, time consuming, but I do NOT care as long as she eats a high quality food. Maybe your baby will like it too! Good luck!!
