One feature I'd like to see here....

The one thing I'd like to see here is a feature we had on the old forum. That is to have the thread subject 'highlighted'/Bold lettering when a new post has been added to a thread since I had last visited.
Am I making sense? LOL
It sure was helpful to me to be able to quickly see if someone replied since my last visit to a thread.

Terry, it works that way for me. At least I think it does! LOL

The icons to the left of the thread title indicate if the thread has new posts and also if you have already posted in the thread.
Terry is right, it does not do it. I am missing a lot of posts because of that. I never look at the icons, not even know what they mean. It's so easy if the thread is in bolt to see if it is a new one or if something has been added.
I surf the site from the "view new posts" link and the ones i haven't read are in bold. Are you all reading from the Forums page rather than new posts?
I do what Sher does, I think. LOL

I always refer to the Forums page. Then I'll go to a sub forum, such as Anything Goes. I can see new posts highlighted in bold that way. Then, all the way atop the page on the left hand side I'll hit Spoiled Maltese Forums, then hit another sub forum such as Health Section and see all the new posts highlighted again.

Hope that makes sense.

I also have been using the view new posts on the new forum. I never used it on the old because any post I had not read at all always stayed in bold. After you have seen the topic titles it unbolds them. I am missing more posts in this version too.
On the Forums page, there's an icon that looks like a bulletin board - if there are new posts in that Forum it's tan; if not, it's all blue. Then, on the page for the individual forum, all new posts are in bold and by clicking the little box to the left of the title you go straight to the new posts.

I never tried the "new posts" feature because I found this so easy to use.

LMAO ~ Kerry, that's a lot of work ~ :HistericalSmiley:

I believe, what Sher does, is click on "New Posts", that's what I do.

Mine are always highlighted, for those with new responses, either way I do it. Clicking on "New Posts" hits them all at once.

I don't think I'm making any sense either ~ :HistericalSmiley:

LBB: For God's sake, do you both need me to lead the way??

Jops: LBB, you're a dumbass
I'm not sure if this will help but maybe it will.

I use the New Posts link that lists all current threads no matter which sub-forum they are in. Here is a screen print of my screen and I'll list below what each icon means:

The forum must automatically reduce the file size because this is not very clear but I hope you can see it. When you click on the thumbnail of course it will get bigger but it does make it impossible to read my post and look at the screen print at the same time!

The first two posts are bold and the envelope is opened, which means there are new posts for me to read.

The next one is not bold which means I read it and the little arrow on top of the envelope means I have replied to it already. Also the envelope is closed, which means no new posts for me to read.

The 4th one has the arrow on top of the envelope, which means I have responded to it but it is bold and the envelope is open and that means there are new posts for me to read.

The 5th and 6th ones are bold with the envelope open and there is no arrow on the envelope, which tells me this is one I need to read.

The 7th one is not bold and the envelope is closed and there is an arrow on the envelope. It means I have responded to it and there are no new posts. I can skip over this one.

The "legend" for what the icons mean is on the forum pages within the sub-forums but not on the "New Posts" page. I've asked Yung if he could put the legend on all pages.

Sher thanks...
I simply need to learn the 'icons'. ( Just when I though I 'had-them' I found a few cases I didn't. I was spoiled with that 'bolding' feature..it seemed so simple ...and this is too actually once you have the icons down... I'm sure I'll 'adjust" LOL

Thanks to you other gals as well for your input!

Along with the 'New Posts' feature, once you click on that thread, if you click on 'view first unread' on the top left corner of the opened thread, right under 'Post Reply', it takes you to the first unread post in that thread.
I was using the New Posts tab until this past week when someone mentioned that the posts recycle so they were missing many of the new posts. That's when I realized I was missing some, too. I started using the Active Topics tab, the unread posts are in bold, and I'm seeing a lot more posts than in the New Posts tab.
Not sure if this helps but please see the attached image.

Clicking on this icon will bring you to the first UNREAD post within the read since you last read the thread. So for example, let's say that I read a thread today and it has 5 posts. I come back tomorrow and find that thread and now it has 15 new posts. Clicking on that icon will take me to the 6th post of the thread (aka the first unread post of the 15 new ones).

Hmmmm.....I didn't realize that New Post recycle. There are 2 pages of them and I just thought they were in chronological order of the most recent new posts and replies. Well darn... hope I've not missed something good!
I never use the "New Posts" because everything is mixed together. I prefer to go with each - I not even know what it is called - topic like "Health", "Pictures", "Anything goes"....

Oh Crystal, you've missed some really juicy stuff!!!!!!! :w00t::w00t:''

I always click on Active Topics.....but you can't go back further than the page that's showing.....I'd love to be able to go back further like we used to.
I'm not sure what you guys mean by "recycle" ... The threads should be in order of the time of the last post with the newest one first.

Here I go again. I posted this in Paula's thread about problem people have keeping up with posts:
I'm hoping that Jung will read this or maybe someone else could explain better. The way that the old SM worked, if you read a thread and posted on it and then returned to it you would see a little icon that could take you to the last post since you read or posted on that thread BUT also if you didn't read or open a thread at all the heading would be in bold. When you'd read it would go to regular font I believe keeping you up to date to latest on that thread. But if someone posted something afterwards it would become bold again. So what would happen is if I was away from SM for a while I could look under all the forums and see in bold exactly which ones I didn't read or if I did read/post and someone posted on the thread after that. That way you always kept up. Now there's that first latest posts page (which really does make you not go further many times but good for a quick catch up) I sometimes don't get to all the forums. But when I do I can't tell what's been updated. Can it go back to bold like it was? I know I'm not explaining this well. I have also had the little icon come up and take me past posts that I haven't read or written instead of to the last one i read or wrote. I've had this problem ever since the new format.

 Maybe after a nice glass of wine with dinner, this will make more sense. :smtease:

Oh wait...I'm behind schedule and still giving baths. 1 down 2 to go. I may skip dinner and have :popcorn:instead.

Thanks for the support, girlfriend. :HistericalSmiley::HistericalSmiley: I really have trouble explaining it but it makes sense to me. I thought one of the patient techies might read it slowly and folo. Or not. Happy bath time.:chili:
