oven cleaners?

Well one more thing to go 'ka-put! My Whirlpool drop in oven/range works fine BUT the clock/timer went. Without that I can't do the self-cleaning. Really don't want to 'put-out' for a new drop in oven right now if I can keep this one a bit longer. Especially since both the range and oven work fine!( shhhh! so far that is! LOL ) Just sooooo many expenses piling upon us all at once! UGH!

Anyway anyone have suggestions for a 'decent' oven cleaner that doesn't give off all those nasty fumes!!?? Haven't had to clean an oven in years and was one job I absolutely HATED! However I also hate a dirty oven!!!!!

BTW yes, we've tried to get replacement part... oven too old ( 20 years or so) so can't get parts! Still going to try but so far no luck...keep being told the same thing!

Any suggestions would be appreciated. I've tried the home-remedies of 'old' but they do nothing to my satisfaction. I don't expect I'll get as good as self-cleaner with a 'manual' product but looking for at least 'decent".

I have a self-cleaning oven but I periodically clean it myself because the house will stink when I use the self-cleaning feature (from it getting so hot for so long and obviously burning any food residue on the inside).

Unfortunately I don't know of any low-fume products that actually WORK. lol I use one that stinks really bad, although I do wear a little mask when I use it and after it sits for the allotted time (a few hours I think), I make sure I rinse it out really, really well. I'd rather put up with a few hours of smelling the fumes than to have to use more elbow grease using products that hardly work!

I think it's called EASY-OFF (yellow can) but the fumes from it are insane. Gloves and mask are almost a must.
Yeah, Easy-Off is what I USED to use pre- self-cleaner and whew it was nasty! LOL.. Once I got the self-cleaner I swore I'd go without food before going without a self-cleaner.....well now I "eat-my-words"
I used Easy-Off (I think the can is blue--no fumes). It was so simple. I sprayed it on the oven door, left it over night and wiped the oven door clean in the morning. (I've never cleaned anything other than the door though)

I think Easy-Off have been improved over the years.

Here is the can I use...

That is the same one I use, but I think the fumes are still awful! lol
I used the Easy Off one that you don't have to turn on the oven at all. I'm pretty sure it's the one pictured above. It worked wonderful and I couldn't smell a thing.

I have a self cleaning oven, but the thing puts off so much heat I don't use that function.
I tried the blue can but it does not work as good as the yellow can. I have not used it for the oven for a long time but used it to clean the BBQ grills.

Really? I didn't smell a thing! LOL Maybe my sniffer is broke! :HistericalSmiley:
Thanks ladies !
This may all be a mute issue...went to fix dinner last night and my oven door won't open! LOL
This happened the other day when our friend (electrician) was here and I went to show him 'what happens when' . I had happened to have just put a lemon merangue pie in to brown the merangue. We were talking and I just pulled the handle part way on the lock feature, to show huim something and which usually doesn't lock it. Suddenly the 'clean' feature light came on! Yup oven started to go into 'clean" , door locked, and my pie in there!!!! LOL :w00t::w00t::w00t::w00t:
Had to cut the breaker, and he had to take the whole front off the oven in order to get my pie out LOL .
He put it back together and all was fine till I went to fix dinner last night.
( They had taken the clock out in order to get parts #s etc. Apparently there is a 'connection' between the door lock and clock/timer. Hopefully when the clock goes back in ( even though it doesn't work) the door will go back to normal .

I'm the weirdo. I use baking soda and vinegar. And a small hand steamer, too.
No you are not the weirdo. I have used the steamer on the BBQ grills too. I don't know about the baking soda and vinegar.

Put white vinegar in a spray bottle.
Sprinkle baking soda on a dirty surface, spray with white vinegar.
Thanks ladies !

:new_shocked::new_shocked: So now are you looking for oven recommendations??? I did have to laugh picturing the meringue pie trapped in the oven scenario. At least you didn't have to call 911- "Send someone quickly to rescue my pie!!":HistericalSmiley::HistericalSmiley: Did the electrician demand a large piece of it for his rescue? For what it's worth, I love, love, love my Fridgidaire oven that has convection roast. I cook and bake ALL the time and it's wonderful. It gives me high end features for a lower end price. If you need more info let me know.
