Photobucket is a pain in the...

I wonder if it is your computer or your internet connection. I use Photobucket and find it to be very fast. Most any photo site is only going to be as fast as your internet connection allows.

It depends on your photo quality, too. My camera is set to take pictures with a resolution of 3000x2000 (or something like that) so if I try to just throw pictures into photobucket straight from the computer, it takes FOREVER. Usually, I resize them to be about half the size and then it goes really quickly. It's a lot less MB, so it goes faster when the resolution is a little smaller.

I started being a paying member of SM because I wouldn't have to use photobucket or anyother outside service.

Now that our forum is new and improved....I'm back to using it. :angry:

It takes me twice as long to post a picture and sometimes I think it's just plain not worth it. ....and one of these days.....guess I'll just stop posting pictures. It's easier on Facebook anymore.

Why don't you gals save your pics to a little travel drive you can pop on and off your computer to get any pics you want to post? It saves hundreds of pics, music, whatever you want saved. You can buy one for as little as $10.

Brit, I have to use an outside service no matter where my pictures are...because I've used up all my allotted space on the new format and am reluctant to delete all my old pictures. I have a portable drive, but it would take forever to save all the pictures I have on SM, there are over 90 pages of posts to go through. It would take forever just to delete them!!!!....and I don't want to delete them. So I'm stuck in an uncomfortable place. At this point, I see no reason to renew my paid subscription when it expires.

I understand, Pat. Maybe you could just take a few minutes here and there and save the ones you want to keep. After a few weeks you should have most saved.

Maybe sometime I could. I went through 10 pages one time and it took so long. I didn't even put a dent in them. And when I'm done, I'm sure there'll still be too many. At this point in time it's too big a project to even think about starting. I'm at work as it is now...:blush:....I just pop in out for a minute or two when I can.

Brit, do you know if there's a way to just delete EVERYTHING without having to do each one at a time? It'll be like I'm a new member.

I know with the PMs you can check up box and then scroll down to where it says "Move to... and then select Delete" and press "Go" Makes it easier for bulk deletions.

Your assignment is to do a few a day since You Are Not Allowed to Not post pictures here Love, One who would feel Deprived if you didn't post piccies

Be careful that you have an "offsite" backup file... a copy of the pictures that you don't have anywhere near the computer or the travel drive in your purse... for instance, a file copy located with a friend or safe deposit box or an offsite backup service like Mozy or Carbonite.

I'm something of a computer nerd (I work with computers for a living), and make very careful backups of my files. I run a backup at least once a week, sometimes twice. Five years ago, my house burned down. It was a total loss. And I can remember going in and looking at that pile of plastic slag that was once the very careful backups I made. So I lost not only my computer but also my backups because they were in the same location. I wasn't very emotionally attached to the house, so it wasn't as wrenching a loss as it could have been, but losing those computer files was devestating.

Now I give my backups to one of my neighbors.

I hate the idea that old pictures are being removed. I like going back and looking at old threads sometimes.

Depressing.

Why Carina ? My pictures are not located in the SM Gallery. I have barely pictures there. The ones on Photobucket are there because there was no other way to post them on websites. My pictures are on my computer and on backup disks. Some that I really like are printed out and in albums. I don't go back here to look at old threads. The same topics are coming up here on and on, and it is just a repetition. I never use the search part here because the only few times I tried it is not giving me what I really look for.

I have over 16k pics on my livingroom computer. So I got a subscription to Mosey to back them up and everything else on my computer. I do need one of those external HD's though to back em up too though.

Here lately I just use the kids computer in the kitchen. I LOVE it, it was windows 7 and it starts up and is ready to go in like 10-15 seconds! I have to wait literally 10 minutes or longer for mine. I have a monitor issue, that when I turn the computer on. I get this LOUD sound, like forced air/static coming out of the speakers. Takes about 10 mins for the monitor to even turn itself on. After that though, it operates with no problem. Time for a new computer for me!!

The pictures I need to delete are all the ones in all my posts.....not the gallery.
