Hello, my name is Vera and I am a soon-to-be Maltese puppy mom. My puppy's name is Violet and she was born on April 20 to my friend's dog in Florida. I will be going to FL to pick her up on July 19 and I can't wait, I am SO excited!

I will be a new Maltese owner, I never had a dog before, so please have patience with me!

Violet's mom is 6 lbs and her dad is 5 lbs. I have checked online to see how big I can expect Violet to be when she's 13 weeks (when I am able to take her home) and most sites have estimated about 2.5 lbs.

I am looking for a carrier that I can use to bring her home, but Jetblue has a size limit on carriers that you put under your seat: 17"L x 12.5"W x 8.5"H. I bought one from a friend, but the height is too tall at 12"... and I'd hate to be turned away at the airline counter the day I bring her home because the carrier is too tall.

I found this one online, I like it a lot, but is the small size too small at 15"L x 5"W x 8"H? Does anyone know if this carrier will be a good size for a 13 week old puppy? Jetblue says she must be able to stand & turn around in the carrier. Will she be able to?

I am also looking for a crate... I don't know exactly how large the crate needs to be, or how small for that matter. I am looking at this one because it will match my bedroom... is the small size at 21"H x 18"W x 26"L too big or too small? I am sitting in an airport right now and I have a carrier that is pretty big bug it squashes do i can shove it under the seat. It is the plastic carriers I would not think about using on an airplane. I have a divided sturdibag with two dogs in it and then a kwigybo bag. For the money I would get the kwigy Bo bag. There is a vendor here who sells them. Welcome to Sm!

Thank you for the reply! The Kwigy-Bo Alexa was the one I was looking at getting, but I am unsure about the small size... I just want to know if the 2.5 lb puppy will fit in the 15"L x 5"W x 8"H carrier (since it's below Jetblue's max requirements) and if she'll be able to turn around once inside? The large 11" tall one exceeds Jetblue's max height by 2.5". Also, will she be able to be carried in such a small carrier after she grows to her full size? I just don't want to buy two $100 carriers, I'd rather get just one.

Does anyone have advice about the crate size?

Get the large bag then. I ordered the small and had to turn around and get the large

I mean no disrespect, but I did say that the (large) 11" carrier is too big by Jetblue's standards, didn't I? The max height they allow is 8.5" HIGH.

Thank you Suzan! I really like the Sturdibag but also the Kwigy-bo Alexa... both of which are too tall by Jetblue's standards... I understand that they can "squish" under the seat, however I just got off the phone with Jetblue- and they said even though it squishes down, they said there IS a chance that I may be turned away from flying with my new bundle of joy if the carrier is too tall... they only allow carriers up to 8.5" high... the woman was obviously trying to sell me Jetblues' UGLY pet carrier for $50. ShopBlue | JetPaws pet carrier It looks like it was designed for a 7 year old boy- I am a fashion conscious woman from New York for goodness sake!

Does anyone have other suggestions for a 8.5" tall carrier?

Or even better- has anyone traveled on Jetblue with an 11" or 10" squishable tall carrier and had no problems?
