I think you may have had the same problem that I had and it took me months to figure out and two wirless routers. It would work and then just quit for no reason at all.
I find that Dlink is the easiest to set up and thier tech support is great and helpfull
Link sys are idiots. They read a script and have products out there that are not compatible to windows x-p.. They had the nerve to post a fix that does not even work. They even told me to exchange the rougter and noting was wrong with it.
Anyway. The issue i had was the modem It needs to be configured to 10 megabit
I think the standard stetting is 100. I suggest you call the router company not the modem company and they and help you reset the modem speed. Depending on the router you are using you may be able to do it with there online connection.

I'm pretty sure that is the problem as the symtoms your discribing sound just like the problems I was having.

Please note: It is not a problem with your router or your modem it is just the megabit settings. I is a quick fix should work in 5 min after changing the modem settings

I don't mean for you to get an other router. Call the router company and ask them how do you change the speed on your modem to match your rougter,as you think they are not on the same speed.
I can't telll you how to do it becaue every router has a different interface ip to automaticly change it. It is a simple thing and should only take them 10 min to tell you or walk you through it.

You should not have to change your router at all,or your modem.
If the speeds do not match they will not talk to each other. It may work for a couple of days and then juse give out.

lol, that's funny. I think i did that when setting up the link sys one.
also with the link sys I could not get it work with the security on. I was just a mess.
although the linksys router is still good. It is sitting down stairs in a box looking pretty. I had it with it. stressfull junk. D- link was so easy to set up and the help was good too.
