I have read a lot about tear staining and I know that a lot of maltese pups do this because of teething. Lizzie is now 8 months old and still has one eye that is pretty runny. Should she still be teething now or is it time to take her to the vets to see if there is something wrong with her tear ducts? I don't mind the tear staining, but if she's uncomfortable, I want to have that taken care of.

Thanks for the advice.

Rocky has one eye that tears sometimes and does some staining, the other eye is a lot less.. sometimes tears. I thought about getting him checked out too. Let me know what you find out if you decide to take Lizzie. Sorry I'm no help to you.

Yes, she could still be teething. From everything I've read, that could go on until about a year old.

You can search for my name on here, and see what we're dealing with ... with possible clogged tear ducts, but I do not think that is the norm.

true also read from 8 months to 10 or longer the "adult teeth are permanently setting in the jaw and the adolescent dog not only wants to chew, he must chew"

My pup went through heavy tearing at this stage then went away at 11 to 12 months...
