(Hope this isn't a dbl post.. thought I had done it but don't see it)

Since my memoory card in my camera is full, I'm trying to go thru and clean out and save what I want . I came across this photo that I had forgotten about. He was a 'beauty' the photo doesn't do him justice!

How big is that turkey?! I heard that there is this huge wild male that sometimes comes out, but since I've lived here I haven't seen it. I did get a big scare from some deer though - those things are huge!
awwh sure is a beauty..but is he just out there in the wild? I mean does he belong to someone? lol maybe he wanted to say *hello* to you and pose for your camera :D so precious

hugs
Kat
Since it was Spring and mating season.. he was flaunting his 'colors'... ans when the males do that they look HUGE because even 'un-fluffed' they're pretty big!

Kat, yes these are wild turkeys, we have a load of them!
Here's a photo taken a few years ago when these 3 wandered onto our patio. They come thru the yard daily sometimes a flock of 10-12!
This might give a better idea of size ...

WOW! They are BIG!!!!! Do they go into hiding around Thanksgiving??? :innocent:

How do the dogs react to them? We have ducks around all the time, our neighbor's dog goes crazy over them, but mine don't really seem to bother with them.
Wow, those turkeys look crazy, but beautiful!! I can't believe their size!! I just love animals of all kind! They are so fun to watch.

I had the same thoughts ... I know that my two will go crazy over them too .... even if they were much bigger in size. I know that because I remember when they were in the car with me and some friends in a desert trip once, we saw some wild camels ...Snowy and Crystal barked their heads off at the huge creatures.

As a matter of fact they DO 'disappear' about Thanksgiving .... mostly due to that IS hunting season here. I think all the guns going off in surrounding area spook them....rightfully so! Many farmers even get special 'permits' to allow off-season hunting for deer and I 'think' turkeys too because when over-populated they ruin crops like crazy. I understand but HATE hearing those guns go off!I always wonder if it's one of our 'little friends".

AS to the dogs.. Naddie was never phased by them for the first couple of years then suddenly she decided she didn't want them in the yard and barks and chases them off.... Quincy started this I think, ...he feels all wildlife should go 'elsewear'! LOL

awwh .. i think I will be the same in this :( especially if few come for visits very often and i get the opportunity to be close to them to watch.

yes , before the two twirps started chasing them I could be sitting at the patio table and they'd walk right by me heading to the other side where the bird feeders are.As long as I sat very still they'd just 'mosey' on by. Naddie used to just lay there and pay no attention.
Just this year there have been wild turkeys around here too. It's really neat to see them but boy do they make a mess of the yard.
That's a really cute flag..and your yard is just so beautiful, green and perfect!

Wow...that's amazing. They're beautiful.

Down here I have to deal with armadillos and possums in my yard!!! :HistericalSmiley::HistericalSmiley:Kodi goes biserk by the back door when she sees them; it's hilarious. I never open the door though, I don't want the vermin attacking my baby.
oh I just love turkeys! When I was younger I had one as a pet... She was the SWEETEST thing ever! lol but then again, I have a special place in my heart for poultry of any sort.

The pictures are beautiful and thanks for sharing them! :D
That shot of the turkey in full plumage was amazing. It looks just like the cardboard fanned ones they have a centerpieces for tables. :HistericalSmiley::HistericalSmiley:
We have wild turkeys for years in VT but they look kind of small and skinny - like the other shot you have but ours are smaller. Love nature.
Looks like turkey pot pie to me. Ooops..I'm hungry. Sorry. Great pics but they sure are brave coming so close to man, aren't they?
oh terry what a wonderful picture, do you live in the country? we see them on our rides but never that close.
