I'm not in the city, so I won't be able to take a picture of the Tribute in Light from my window. Sorry. Here's a beauty, though:

Beautifull Kerry and I share your heavy heart. But I also have great pride in our country especially today, for how well NYers pulled together, as well as the Country. Additionally, the Pentagon was hit, and was operational, in some parts the very next day and some on that day. I am very proud of the strength and charcater that was demonstrated at both places, and nothing or no one can diminish that ever.
Bless all of those directly effected, and I also feel great pride, the way we pulled together, it can and did only make us stronger.

Kerry -- thanks for sharing. I know that none of us will ever forget that awful day and where we were and what we were doing. I cry each year for the tragic, useless act of violence and the loss of all the precious lives.

Thanks Kerry! One of my brothers was living in NYC when this happened and he worked close to the towers. I can remember everything about that day. We were frantic to talk to him and it was late afternoon by the time he got through to us. The whole day was spent watching the TV. It was surreal just watching it so I can only imagine what it was like being there.
I pray for all the people who lost friends and family and I pray nothing like this ever happens again.

Oh sweetie - such a heavy heart especially as a New Yorker.:crying: I lost my friend Vita Marino that day in one of the top floors of the South Tower. She was a fellow school parent, the mother of two little girls and called them that morning to say she was walking down the stairs and would be home soon. Her daughters worried because she was wearing her red high heels. She never made it. :crying 2: It's beyond sad and every time I think of her I cry. I am going to try to see the tribute in lights tonight.
I woke up this morning and went into the shower which has a window and looked out and all I could think was that it was a 9/11 sky.Totally blue, not a cloud just like it was when I looked out the window that horrendous morning before I knew what happened. Later, that sky would fill with acrid clouds of ash and the faces of people in the street were haunting and expressionless. I still remember the wail of sirens all day, watching it all unfold on tv and running to get my son from school so he could be with us, not knowing what would, or could, happen next.
I'm listening to the names read right now and pray for those who are gone and all their friends and family who are a living testament to their lives. As I listen to the names I realize again that people of every nationality, race, religion, sexual orientation,etc were represented in those buildings -- working and living side by side. That's the true fabric of New York and New Yorkers. I pray that somehow we will find peace again in this world and love and live together.:heart:

I am watching the reading of the names again this morning and remembering.
My friend Kim,lost her sister ,Michelle,that day in NY, and we almost lost Al's cousin,Linda, Her husband Ben was in the hospital w/ a stroke the day before. The stroke saved his life...and Linda's life too ,they both worked in the Pentagon,at the very spot that was hit. A friend of mine's husband ,Les,worked in the American Express Building and saw the flash.
We were frantic trying to call our friends and relatives in NY and DC and couldn't get through,but they finally got through to us. Scary times....
We saved the emails and texts onto our computer, from friends and family that had to evacuate their appartments and others who volunteered,I still read them once in a while.

I have been sitting here looking at pictures and thinking about all the people in America ... who lost loved ones and friends when those horrific events took place on 9/11 ... in New York City, Arlington, VA, and, Shanksville, Pennsylvania.

A beautiful tribute Kerry, thanks for starting this thread. The world was forever changed on 9/11.
I remember that day too but from a different perspective because I did not live so close. To those that did, my heart goes out to you. I can remember when Kerry wrote such a moving experience about that day. The thing I remember was getting a cup of coffee and returning to my computer and the TV was on in this very room. It was such a gorgeous day and then I saw it on the television. You just did not believe it. The first realization that something was not right was when I saw the second plane, even before it hit, you knew, you just knew. The Today show did not seem to catch on as fast as I did. I thought.......wake up!!! Then the whole, horrible, unbelieveable day. You sat in a trance and the stories that enfolded day after day........this is what I will always remember. We need to stop fighting. It is so useless but I am afraid it will never happen. I pray for the families of the victims and those that lost friends and to those that had to witness it first hand....and I pray for peace.:heart:
